GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles hosted Siena Heights on Saturday night in the Friendship Sports International BOGO night, where every shirt and pair of socks purchased provided an article of clothing for homeless in Grand Rapids through Mel Trotter Ministries. After a scoreless first half,
Allan Barrientos was the difference maker with a goal in the 62nd minute of action to boost Cornerstone's record back to 2-2 heading into the final week of fall play, which will continue on Wednesday at Lawrence Tech.
The Highlights:
- In the 29th minute of action, Siena Heights had a golden opportunity to get on the board with a shot attempt on frame, but the ball struck the post and stayed out.
- Cornerstone had a few solid chances late in the first half, most notably with 14 minutes to play in the frame when Logan Johns sent a ball to the middle where Allan Barrientos was able to head the ball towards the goal but the SHU keeper was able to make the save.
- After a scoreless first half, the Golden Eagles had several opportunities to break the ice early in the second half, including three consecutive corner kicks in the first three minutes of action. The Saints were able to fend off all three to keep the game scoreless.
- In the 62nd minute, Roberto Razo dazzled his way through several defenders before finding Allan Barrientos, who fired the ball into the back of the net to give the Golden Eagles the 1-0 lead.
- The Saints had three scoring chances around the 80th minute mark, including a set piece and two corner kicks, but Alan Mendoza and the Cornerstone defense were able to secure the 1-0 victory.
By the Numbers:
14-9 – Cornerstone led in the shot column by five.
8 – After zero in the first half, the Golden Eagles had eight corner kicks in the second half.

What's Next?
Cornerstone (2-2) will conclude fall action with two road contests, starting with a 7 p.m. contest on Wednesday at Lawrence Tech, followed by a 4 p.m. match on Saturday at Indiana Tech.
