SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Golden Eagles continued their season on Wednesday night with a WHAC contest against Lawrence Tech. Following a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation play,
Christian Galloway was the hero of the night for Cornerstone after he buried a penalty kick just 3:10 into sudden death overtime. The victory propels Cornerstone to 3-2 on the season heading into the fall finale on Saturday at Indiana Tech.
The Highlights:
- Cornerstone had a good look in the 12th minute off a set piece when Abe House connected on a header, but the attempt was saved by the LTU keeper.
- The Blue Devils had three corner kick opportunities in a four-minute span late in the first half but were unable to capitalize on any, and the teams went into halftime scoreless.
- With 16 minutes to play in regulation, Lawrence Tech had a header attempt hit the crossbar, bounce out, and the following shot attempt was kicked wide to keep the game at 0-0.
- Cornerstone earned a penalty kick just 3:10 into overtime when Jason Lugo was taken down inside the box while chasing a ball. Christian Galloway took the PK for the Golden Eagles and buried it in the bottom right corner to end the game.
- The overtime win marks the first victory beyond 90 minutes for the Golden Eagles in seven such contests, as the team went 0-4-2 in matches decided beyond 90 minutes since the overtime victory against Aquinas on September 26, 2018. The victory also is the first for CU against Lawrence Tech in six tries, as they went 0-4-1 against the Blue Devils since the 1-0 victory in 2015.

What's Next?
The Golden Eagles (3-2) will conclude the fall portion of the 2020-21 season with a big match at WHAC-favorite Indiana Tech on Saturday at 4 p.m. After Saturday, the remainder of the season is scheduled to be played in the spring of 2021.
