MISHAWAKA, Ind. – After a victory in the season opener at Indiana University Northwest, the Golden Eagles returned to the state of Indiana on Thursday to take on Bethel. After keeping pace with the Pilots for the first quarter, Cornerstone was outpaced for the remainder of the game and ultimately fell 118-84. The loss sets CU back to an even 1-1 heading into Saturday's home opener against Huntington, which will tip off at 1 p.m.
How it happened:
- Allyson Richards scored ten points, including six free throws, in the first quarter but Bethel held a 28-27 advantage after the first ten minutes.
- The Pilots took flight late in the second quarter by ending the half on a 19-4 run to lead 57-46 at the break.
- A pair of free throws from Kaycee Sluiter with 5:12 to play in the third quarter cut the deficit to 67-61, but Bethel responded with a 16-0 run and ended the third frame with a 91-65 advantage.
- While Cornerstone matched their point total of the second and third quarters with 19 points in the final quarter, Bethel tallied 27 points in the last ten minutes to cap off a 118-84 result.
By the numbers:
25% – After shooting 10-for-21 from beyond the arc against IU-Northwest, Cornerstone was held to just 6-for-24 tonight.
