Men’s Basketball unable to snap skid in road loss at UNOH

LIMA, Ohio. – The Golden Eagles have now lost three straight games for the first time since the start of the 2011-12 season, falling in yet another one that came down to the wire, 69-66 at Northwestern Ohio. The Racers continue to upset teams in their own gym, winning their last five home games. CU is now 14-11, 8-8 WHAC on the year as they get set to host Rochester for another tough conference game on Saturday at 3 p.m. 

What you need to know? 
  • The forwards of the Golden Eagles got the team off to a good start as Brent Hibbitts hit a three and Cory Ainsworth knocked down a layup to take a 5-0 lead and force the Racers into a timeout just two minutes into the game. 
  • Gabe Meriwether buried a deep three to continue the strong start for CU at 10-2. 
  • After getting out 14-4, UNOH went on an 11-4 run to cut the Cornerstone lead to just three with 11:55 to play in the first half. 
  • Zach Montes hit a layup for the Racers to tie the game, but Tyler Baker immediately responded to give CU the advantage back at 22-19. 
  • UNOH exploded for an 11-0 run to take their first lead of the game and go on top 30-22. 
  • The Racer defense stepped up as Cornerstone scored just six points in the final 9:31 of the first half to trail 40-28.
  • Tyler Baker scored the first 12 points of the second half for the Golden Eagles to cut it to a seven-point game at 47-40. No other CU players scored in the first 7:45 of the second half. 
  • After cutting it to seven, UNOH responded with a 10-0 run to take a 57-40 advantage. This was the Racers largest lead of the game. 
  • Trent Summerfield hit a pair of threes as part of a 9-0 run for CU to respond, which cut the deficit to 57-49 with 9:42 to play. 
  • Cornerstone continued to chip away, cutting it to as low as three with 1:28 remaining on a Cory Ainsworth layup. 
  • Tyler Baker hit another three to cut it as low as two points with 49 seconds to play. 
  • Cornerstone got the stop they needed and had the chance for the tie with seven seconds remaining, but the jumper did not go and forced the team to foul. UNOH went one for two at the line to hold on and defeat the Golden Eagles 69-66. 
 
 

 
By the Numbers 
  • Cornerstone was held to a 33.9% mark from the field, the team's third worst mark of the year. 
  • Tyler Baker led the team with 20 points and hit four threes. 
  • Cory Ainsworth had a team high nine rebounds to go along with 16 points. 
 
What's Next? 
Cornerstone returns home on Saturday to take on Rochester at 3 p.m. a team they lost to on the road earlier this season.
