DEERFIELD, Ill. – The Golden Eagles made it a perfect three for three in sweeps to start the year with an impressive day taking down Judson and Trinity International in a crossover this afternoon in Deerfield, Illinois. CU continued their success at the service line, recording 14 service aces on the day as they improve to 3-0 on the year. Cornerstone will head back to Illinois on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. EST match with Trinity Christian in Palos Heights.
Game One – Cornerstone – 3 Judson - 0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-14)
- Cornerstone got off to a slow start in set one, falling behind 7-2 after a pair of kills from Judson's Mackenzie Ebert.
- CU later went on a 6-0 run capped off by an Alexis Angus kill to tie the set at 9-9.
- Another run that saw a Bailey Cummings service ace and another Alexis Angus kill helped the Golden Eagles take control.
- Olivia Keelean recorded a kill to take set one 25-19.
- In set two, Cornerstone dominated early with an 8-0 run with Rylie Walters on the serve. Walters recorded two aces to give CU a 13-4 advantage.
- Judson responded with a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to two, but kills from Jackie Stanko and Bailey Cummings gave CU the 25-19 set two victory.
- Patsy Morris had the great serving strategy to begin set three, helping CU go on a 6-0 run to take an 8-3 advantage.
- Judson responded and took the lead 11-10 on a Katie Valeria kill.
- A 7-0 run on Kayla Clark's serve gave CU the advantage back as they would seal the match victory with a 25-14 set three win.
Game Two – Cornerstone – 3 Trinity International – 0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-13)
- Similarly to game one, CU saw a slow start in set one falling behind 7-2.
- Trinity International recorded a few errors in the middle of the set, that allowed Cornerstone to take a 10-8 lead.
- Bailey Cummings recorded two service aces and a kill in the final four points of the set to give the Golden Eagles a 25-17 set one win.
- Set two was back and forth throughout, but once again Cornerstone pulled away and recorded a 4-0 run to end the set with three kills from Alexis Angus.
- Trinity International held an early lead in set three, but Cornerstone scored five straight to go on top 14-9.
- Freshman Kylie Andras then served a Golden Eagle 7-0 run to increase the advantage to 22-10.
- After a few points from Trinity International, Brooke Nicholson recorded a kill and TIU had an attacking error to end the set in favor of CU 25-13 and give the Golden Eagles the match sweep.
