Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. – The Golden Eagles opened conference play in impressive fashion, with 15 of 16 players scoring, shooting 50.7% from the field, and holding Siena Heights to just 14 points in the first half on their way to a 95-54 road win. The lead grew to as large as 47 at one point in the second half as Cornerstone led from start to finish at Siena Heights. CU is now 4-2 on the year and 1-0 in WHAC play as they will return home for the first time since November to face Madonna this Saturday at 3 p.m.
What you need to know?
- After a rough defensive performance at Bethel, Cornerstone was lock down early, holding Siena Height scoreless for the first 6:21 of the game.
- Offensively, CU dominated in the early going beginning the game on a 13-0 run that saw seven points from Riley Costen.
- Once the saints got on the board via the free throw line, they were able to score six straight to make it 13-6.
- Cornerstone then went on a 15-0 run to increase their lead to as large as 20 that included a trio of threes from Eli Steffen, Carter Nyp, and Gabe Meriwether.
- The onslaught continued into halftime as the Golden Eagles took a 33-point lead into the break at 47-14.
- The CU defense held the Saints to just six made field goals in the first half and 16.1% from the field, while going 18-35 themselves and shooting 51.4%.
- The second half began with a bang as Tyler Baker hit a three for CU to make it 50-14.
- Eli Steffen continued his strong play off the bench hitting a layup to increase the lead to a game high 38 at 65-27.
- After Siena Heights went on a 4-0 run, Tyler Baker hit another three to bring it back to 38 points with 8:54 to play.
- The offense continued to pour it on throughout the second half, as a trio of buckets from Tyler Baker, Kyle Hayes and Trent Summerfield pushed the lead over 40, as CU held a 77-34 advantage.
- The deep bench got minutes down the stretch for CU as Bryce Nyboer, Weston Sage, Jonny Strube, and Jack Joldersma all scored as the Golden Eagles cruised 95-54 over Siena Heights.
