Galloway scores twice as Men’s Soccer downs Concordia 3-0 on the road

ANN ARBOR, Mich.  – Senior Christian Galloway scored twice in the same game for the first time in his collegiate career, powering the Golden Eagles to a huge 3-0 road victory to end a four-game losing skid. Cornerstone is now 2-7-1 on the year and they earn their first conference win to move to 1-2-0 in the WHAC this season. CU returns home on Wednesday, October 6 to take on Rochester at 7 p.m. as the WHAC regular season continues.

The Highlights:
  • Cornerstone used speed on the turf field in the early first few minutes to record a few shots, as Luke Stewart and Jeff Herrema each recorded a shot in the first two minutes.
  • In the 13th minute, Alan Roman made his first great save of the game, coming out to make a sliding stop with his feet and keep the game scoreless.
  • Cornerstone continued to fire shots toward goal, but the CUAA defense continued to close off the angle, blocking multiple of the CU 13 first half shots.
  • At the intermission the score remained tied 0-0.
  • Concordia broke away in the first 18 seconds of the second half as Bryce Schaner took a shot that missed wide.
  • A couple corner kicks by David Mawi in the 50+ minute range provided some threats for CU as Luke Stewart recorded a header that went wide and Dani Carrillo took a shot that went wide left, keeping the score 0-0.
  • In the 64th minute David Mawi found some space down the right side and made an excellent pass across the box to find Christian Galloway to put the ball away and give CU the 1-0 advantage.
  • In a similar play where CU was running down the right flank looking for the trailer David Mawi this time, Mawi was taken out before he could get a shot off earning a penalty.
  • Christian Galloway came to the spot in the 79th minute. The initial shot was saved but Galloway followed it up for his second goal of the game to give the Golden Eagles insurance at 2-0.
  • Christian Galloway later took a corner that was deflected in by the Cardinals to make it 3-0 in the 84th minute.
  • Cornerstone secured a 3-0 win behind a season high 27 shots.
