GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles hosted the defending WHAC Champions on Saturday evening and were unable to pull off an upset, falling 5-0 to (9) Indiana Tech. Cornerstone saw two shots hit the post early, but were unable to score as they drop to 4-9-1, 3-4-0 WHAC on the year. Next up for CU, they will play their final road game of 2021 as they travel to Siena Heights on Wednesday, October 20 at 7 p.m.
The Highlights:
- It did not take long for the number nine team in the country to find the net, as Maxwell Amoako scored in the fifth minute on an assist from Luke Jones to make it 1-0.
- In the 20th minute, Maxwell Amoako picked up a loose ball and made a great move to score his second goal of the game and give the Warriors the 2-0 advantage.
- David Mawi saw the first real chance for Cornerstone in the 24th minute but it was saved by IIT.
- After the two early goals, Alan Roman started to make some outstanding saves to keep the score 2-0 at the half.
- Cornerstone did a good job to start the second half, holding Indiana Tech to just two shots in the first six minutes.
- Nate Kaercher then had the Golden Eagles best chance of the day on a counter attack as he beat the keeper but was denied by the post.
- A minute and half later, Nate Kaercher got off another shot and again was denied by the post.
- Indiana Tech responded with their third goal of the game as Luke Jones dribbled through the defense to make it 3-0.
- Just a few minutes later, Jaime Rodriguez found the net on the pass from Maxwell Amoako that brought the CU deficit to four goals.
- Indiana Tech added one more in the 84th minute after a scramble inside the box for the ball, as Jaxon Simerman scored his third goal of the year.
- Cornerstone fell 5-0 to drop to 4-9-1, 3-4-0 WHAC on the year.
