Second half surge downs Men’s Soccer on the road at Siena Heights

ADRIAN, Mich.  –  After Christian Galloway found the net in the first half, Cornerstone was unable to hold the lead as they gave up two in the second to fall 2-1 in Adrian on Wednesday evening. The loss drops Cornerstone to 4-10-1 on the year and 3-5-0 in WHAC play as they have concluded the road portion of the 2021 regular season schedule. CU will have a week before their next match as they take on Lawrence Tech on Wednesday, October 27 at 7 p.m. at CU Soccer Field. 
 
The Highlights:
  • After Christian Galloway recorded the first shot of the match in the fourth minute, Siena Heights took over for the first 20 minutes, with four shots. 
  • In the 21st minute Christian Galloway scored on a counter attack with a nice dribble move in the box, beating the keeper high to give CU the 1-0 advantage. 
  • Shuzuo Akamu hit the post on a shot right before the half, but CU was unable to find an insurance goal as they led 1-0 at the break. 
  • In the second half, Siena Heights found an equalizer in the 54th minute as Gustavo Barros scored similarly to Galloway's early goal beating the keeper high. 
  • Right at the 70-minute mark of the match, Siena Heights went ahead on an outstanding shot from Nolan Chaput, as he struck from outside the box and beat keeper Alan Roman to his left to make it 2-1.
  • Things got more physical in the final 15 minutes with three yellow cards handed out, but Cornerstone was unable to tie things back up as they fell 2-1 on Wednesday evening. 
 
By the Numbers: 
6 – Christian Galloway scored his sixth goal of the season as he continues to lead the Golden Eagles. 
4 – Four yellow cards were handed out with two to each team. Cornerstone's Abe House and Allan Barrientos each received one tonight. 
17 – The match was even in terms of shots with each side recording 17. 
 
What's Next?
Cornerstone has Saturday off and will host Lawrence Tech on Wednesday, October 27 for a 7 p.m. match.
