GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Golden Eagle Volleyball team picked up their third straight 5-set win as they downed visiting Siena Heights 25-13, 21-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-11 on Friday night. The victory lifts Cornerstone to 16-12 overall and 10-3 in the WHAC as they conclude the weekend homestand with a 1pm match vs. Lourdes on Saturday afternoon.
Game Recap: Cornerstone 3 – 2 Siena Heights (25-13, 21-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-11)
- CU dominated the opening set with a 12-point win as they jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead and never looked back.Â
- The Golden Eagles hit .652 in the opener that saw them connect on 16 kills and just one error
- The Saints used a big run towards the end of the second set to bring the match even
- The teams battled in the third and fourth sets as the largest lead for CU in the 3rd was a 16-10 lead in route to the 25-22 victory and the largest lead for the Saints in the 4th was 8-4 as they scored the final two points to take it 26-24
- SHU jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the 5th but CU rallied to score eight of the next 11 points to force the Saints into a timeout trailing 8-6
- The lead grew to 13-9 on a service ace from Rylie Walters and then CU closed out the match 15-11 on a kill from Olivia Keelean
