GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The crowd at Mol was anticipating another five-setter after CU dropped the first set, but the Golden Eagles had other plans as they took care of Lourdes 3-1 behind the
Rylie Walters attack. The win moves Cornerstone to 17-12 overall, 11-3 in the WHAC. CU now owns sole possession of second place in the WHAC following that win.
Game Recap: Cornerstone 3 – 1 Lourdes | (23-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-17)
- Lourdes started off hot winning six of the first eight points, capitalizing on CU attacking errors and a kill by Michaela Eisenhauer.
- Cornerstone stormed back with a 4-0 run to tie up the match at 6-6 following a Kylie Barron kill.
- There was a lot of back-and-forth play as each team registered multiple attacking errors.
- With the Golden Eagles up 18-17, Lourdes went on a 3-0 run to take a 20-18 lead.
- After a Kaylee Dykema kill put CU up 22-21, Lourdes never looked back, winning four of the next five points to take the set 25-23.
- The second set began with a lot of back-and-forth play, eventually leading a Lourdes 7-5 lead.
- That's when CU rattled off a 5-0 run during a stretch when they won 11 of 13 points to take a 16-9 lead.
- Lourdes responded with a 5-0 run of their own, but then the Golden Eagles returned the favor with a 5-0 run, as CU took a commanding 22-15 lead.
- CU finished off the second set 25-18 after a Kathryn Detweiler kill.
- With Cornerstone up 10-9 in the third set, Lourdes went on a five-point run to take a 14-10 lead.
- The Golden Eagles responded by taking seven of the next eight points to recapture the lead 17-15.
- Lourdes then made a 5-0 run, aided by back-to-back aces during that streak.
- Then, with Lourdes up 21-18, Cornerstone took seven of the next nine points to win the set 25-23, capped by a Lourdes service error.
- The fourth set was all CU as they turned two early four-point runs into a 9-3 lead.
- Then, with the Golden Eagles up 14-6, Lourdes took the next six points to cut the CU lead to 14-12.
- Cornerstone responded with a 4-0 run of their own, capped by three Lourdes attacking errors to take an 18-12 lead.
- Lourdes and CU exchanged points until CU was up 22-17.
- Cornerstone finished the match with a three-point run to capture the match 3-1.
