Morris cracks program top 10 for digs as Women’s Volleyball defeats UM-Dearborn in four

DEARBORN, Mich. – Junior Patsy Morris highlighted the night, recording 20 digs which placed her inside the top 10 for career digs in Cornerstone program history. Morris along with outside hitters Olivia Keelean and Rylie Walters led the Golden Eagles to a four-set victory at UM-Dearborn as they improve to 18-12, 12-3 WHAC on the year to remain in second in the conference. Cornerstone returns home on Friday for back-to-back WHAC matches with Rochester at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. as the regular season winds down. 

Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 UM-Dearborn - 1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-11, 25-16)
  • The Wolverines shocked Cornerstone early and went on a 7-0 run that saw two service aces to go on top 14-5. 
  • Cornerstone responded with a 3-0 run capped off by a Patsy Morris service ace to cut the deficit to six at 16-10. 
  • UMD would hold the lead throughout set one though, as Kristin Maust recorded the final kill to win set one 25-18.
  • Cornerstone responded in a big way in set two, scoring four straight points to start it with a block from Olivia Keelean and Kathryn Detweiler and a service ace from Rylie Walters
  • UM-Dearborn would come back though to take their first lead at 10-9 on a kill from Kristin Maust. 
  • The Wolverine lead would increase after a 5-0 run, making it 15-10. 
  • Cornerstone responded to tie the set at 20 and force UMD into a timeout after kills from Olivia Keelean and Rylie Walters
  • After a timeout from each side, Jada Thomas was able to seal the set two comeback victory with a kill to win 25-23 and tie the match at 1-1. 
  • Set three started the same way as set two, as Cornerstone scored the first four points with kills from Olivia Keelean and Kathryn Detweiler
  • After Dearborn got it to a three point deficit at 10-7, CU scored four straight to force a Wolverine timeout as Jada Thomas shined with a pair of kills in the run. 
  • Cornerstone continued to cruise in set three, as Olivia Keelean recorded the final kill to win set three 25-11. 
  • The two teams traded points early in set four as it sat tied 9-9. 
  • A big block from Kylie Barron and Olivia Keelean capped off a 3-0 run and forced UMD into a timeout as CU garnished their largest lead of the set so far at 12-9. 
  • After the timeout, CU continued to dominate as an Aubrey Lenz service ace made it 17-10. 
  • Cornerstone secured set four and the match on a UM-Dearborn service error to win 25-16 and the match 3-1. 
 
By the Numbers
20 – Rylie Walters and Patsy Morris each had 20 digs on the match to lead CU. 
.385 – Olivia Keelean could not be stopped with a team high 17 kills and a .385 hitting percentage. 
10 – Jada Thomas recorded 10 kills as she returned to a key on court role in tonight's match. 
 
What's Next?
Cornerstone returns home for two matches vs. Rochester on Friday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
