GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In a day that saw two matches vs. Rochester, Cornerstone dominated the service line with 26 total aces as they swept the Warriors in both matches. With just over a week of regular season play remaining, Cornerstone now sits at 20-12, 14-3 WHAC and is just a half game behind Madonna for the lead in the conference. CU will honor their three seniors tomorrow for their final home regular season game of the year vs. Lawrence Tech at 1 p.m.
Game One: Cornerstone – 3 Rochester - 0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-12)
- Cornerstone got off to a great start as Olivia Keelean recorded a kill to take a 9-3 edge early.
- CU went on another 6-0 run that was capped off by Jada Thomas to make it 17-5.
- Olivia Keelean put away the final kill to give Cornerstone the quick 25-11 set one victory.
- Rochester responded in a big way in set two, scoring eight straight points on the Hannah Farnsworth serve to go on top 9-3.
- Kylie Barron recorded two kills to spark a 3-0 CU run and cut the deficit to three at 12-9.
- Cornerstone took the lead 17-16 after a 4-0 run that saw two kills from Rylie Walters.
- A block from Kylie Barron and Olivia Keelean ended set two in the Golden Eagles favor 25-22.
- Kaley Vaughn came in for set three at the setter position.
- Cornerstone scored the first six points of set three, with two kills and a block from Jada Thomas.
- CU dominated set three from start to finish, scoring four of the final six points as Rylie Walters recorded a kill to end the match in a 3-0 sweep with a 25-12 set three victory.
Game Two: Cornerstone – 3 Rochester - 0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-17)
- In game two, Cornerstone picked up right where they left off, taking a 7-3 advantage on a Jada Thomas kill in set one.
- Rochester responded to tie set one at nine on a CU attack error.
- Kylie Andras recorded two service aces in a row to help CU get out to a three-point advantage. Cornerstone then held the lead throughout the remainder of the set, as Kathryn Detweiler recorded a kill to take set one 25-18.
- Aubrey Lenz got hot and helped the Golden Eagles to a 9-2 advantage in set two that forced Rochester into a timeout.
- After the timeout, Lenz continued the dominance at the service line with another ace as she led CU to a 9-0 run.
- Rylie Walters recorded the final kill in set two as Cornerstone cruised to a 25-12 victory.
- Rochester hung around in set three, as the two teams sat tied at 10 early.
- Emma Whitley came in and served to continue the serving dominance for CU, using an ace to cap off a 4-0 run and force Rochester into a timeout leading 17-12.
- Cornerstone carried the lead throughout the remainder of the set as the Warriors had an attack error that gave CU the 25-17 and 3-0 match win.
