LIVONIA, Mich. – Despite already clinching their berth to NAIA National Championship Opening Rounds, Cornerstone took on Madonna for the WHAC Tournament Title and fell in straight sets, 25-18, 25-13, 25-13. CU is now 24-14 on the year heading into National Tournament competition as their opponent and match location will be announced on Monday at 11 a.m. EST.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 0 Madonna - 3 (18-25, 13-25, 13-25)
- After Madonna took an early advantage, Cornerstone battled back with a 4-0 run that was capped off by a service ace from Patsy Morris to make it 11-10 Crusaders.
- MU went on a 6-0 run to take control of set one, 22-15.
- Rylie Walters had an out of rotation ball handling error that ended set one in Madonna's favor 25-18.
- A kill by MU's Molly Miller doubled up the Golden Eagles early in set two at 8-4.
- Madonna scored five of the final six points to win set two 25-13.
- The Madonna block was great all game as Molly Miller recorded one in set three to bring the score to 9-3.
- DJ Sargent recorded a kill to make it 14-4.
- A Rylie Walters kill capped off a 4-0 run and brought the CU deficit back to five.
- Madonna scored eight of the final nine points to win set three and the match 25-13.
