ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Cornerstone's dominance in the WHAC continued Wednesday night as the Golden Eagles topped Concordia (MI) 3-0. This was the ninth win in a row for CU and completes a season sweep of the Cardinals, as Cornerstone won all six sets they played. This win moves the Golden Eagles 22-12 overall, 16-3 in the WHAC. Cornerstone travels to Livonia to take on WHAC-leading Madonna this Saturday. There is a lot on the line, because the winner of that match will win the WHAC regular season championship.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Concordia (MI) – 0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-18)
- Concordia started off the match with solid attacks, taking a 6-5 lead.
- Then, Cornerstone went on the first run of the night by taking the next four points, highlighted by two Kathryn Detweiler kills, to take a 9-6 lead.
- The Cardinals made up the difference with a three-point run to even up the first set at 9-9 after a trio of Golden Eagles errors.
- CU took five of the next six points, capped by a Kaylee Dykema and Aubrey Lenz combined block, to take a 14-10 lead.
- Both teams went back and forth for the remainder of the set, with Cornerstone taking the first set 25-20 on a Kaylee Dykema kill.
- The Golden Eagles started of the second set hot by taking an early 5-1 lead.
- Concordia responded by taking 11 of the next 12 points, taking a commanding 12-6 lead.
- CU then took four of the next five points, capped by a Rylie Walters kill, to cut the Concordia lead to three points at 13-10.
- With the Cardinals up 16-12, the Golden Eagles rattled off three straight points, assisted by a Rylie Walter kill, a Concordia error, and a Walter's service ace.
- Small 2-0 and 3-0 runs by Cornerstone led the way to coming back and ultimately taking the set, as a three-point run at the end of the second set gave the Golden Eagles a 25-22 win.
- Concordia capitalized on a few aces and CU errors to take an early 6-4 lead in the third set.
- Then, the Golden Eagles rattled off a dominant four-point run, highlighted by a pair of Kathryn Detweiler kills and an Olivia Keelean service ace to take an 8-6 lead.
- A few points later, CU had another 4-0 run, as Kaylee Dykema led the way with two kills, giving Cornerstone a 14-9 lead.
- After Concordia took a pair of points, the Golden Eagles responded with a 3-0 run to go up 17-11 after an Olivia Keelean kill.
- The rest of the set went in favor of Cornerstone as they went on multiple two-point runs to finish off the Cardinals 25-18, following a Kaylee Dykema kill, to win the match 3-0.
