GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagle men's soccer team has qualified for their second straight WHAC Tournament after winning their quarterfinal match at Lourdes last season and falling to Indiana Tech in the semifinals. In the 2021 campaign, Cornerstone comes in as the eight seed and will have to take on three-time defending WHAC Champion (10) Indiana Tech in the first round for the WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal. The match is set to take place on Saturday, November 6 at 7 p.m. in Fort Wayne. Live video and stat links can be found

Herrema Out
Freshman forward
Jeff Herrema will have to sit out the WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal due to the accumulation of yellow cards as he is the first CU player to hit five which leads to a one game suspension. Herrema is second on the team with four goals and eight points this season. If Cornerstone where to upset the Warriors, he would be back for the WHAC Tournament Semifinal against the winner of the Aquinas vs. Madonna match.
Last Time Out vs. Indiana Tech
Cornerstone hosted Indiana Tech on October 16 and played much better than the 2020 season but still fell 5-0 to the top 10 powerhouse and three-time defending WHAC Champions. Indiana Tech going into the WHAC Tournament has already secured their bid to NAIA Nationals with a regular season title and they will be one of 10 host sites for the NAIA Opening Round on November 18-20.
WHAC Tournament History
Head Coach
Steve Herdsman and the Golden Eagles have qualified for the WHAC Tournament eight of the last nine years, but have struggled in the quarterfinals going 1-7 in those games with their only tournament win coming last season at Lourdes since 2012. In 2012, CU made it all the way to the WHAC Tournament Final where they fell to rival Aquinas in PK's after a 2-2 tie in regulation.
Scouting Indiana Tech
The Warriors won their third consecutive WHAC Regular Season Title with an undefeated conference slate and their only loss as a team coming in September to (16) Lindsey Wilson. Maxwell Amoako has been the team's best offensive player all year as he leads the team with 15 goals and two assists for 32 points. The defense has been outstanding as well, which has led to Jaume Salvado earning seven solo shutouts and two combined shutouts and a .816 save percentage in net this year. Last time these two teams met, CU had no answer for Maxwell Amoako as he scored the first two goals of the match and earned an assist in the second half to lead to the 5-0 victory over the Golden Eagles.
