FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Cornerstone continued their phenomenal start to the season, staying perfect with a four-set win at receiving votes Indiana Tech, 25-17, 25-17, 25-27, 25-21. CU recorded a season high 54 kills, led by
Bailey Cummings (15) and
Jackie Stanko (13) season best marks. Dominance once again at the service line also was a factor in the victory as the team recorded 11 aces to move to 9-0, 5-0 WHAC. CU will return home on Friday at 8 p.m. for their toughest test yet vs. NAIA number 19 Madonna.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Indiana Tech – 1 (25-17, 25-17, 25-27, 25-21)
- Cornerstone got off to a fast start on the road, scoring the first five points of the match. Brooke Nicholson recorded two kills in the run.
- After Indiana Tech scored one point, Cornerstone went on another 5-0 run to increase the advantage to 10-1. This run saw a pair of kills from Jackie Stanko.
- CU increased the advantage all the way to 16-4, but the Warriors responded to cut it to a five-point deficit at 18-13.
- Cornerstone ended set one on a 7-4 run capped off by a pair of Alexis Angus kills to win 25-17.
- After trailing early in set two, CU took an 11-7 advantage on yet another Alexis Angus kill.
- A Kayla Clark service ace pushed the lead to 16-9.
- CU scored the last three points of set two capped off by another Kayla Clark service ace to win 25-17 yet again.
- The Golden Eagles scored the first three points of set three, using a Patsy Morris service ace to go on top 3-0.
- The Warriors responded to take a 14-11 lead after three consecutive attack errors from the Golden Eagles.
- CU rattled off a 6-1 run to regain the edge 18-16. Setter Kayla Clark recorded two kills in the run.
- The teams traded runs the remainder of the set. After CU led 25-24, Indiana Tech went on a 3-0 run to win set three 27-25 and stay alive in the match.
- An Alexis Angus and Kayla Clark block capped off a 4-0 run in set four for CU that gave them the 11-8 advantage.
- IIT tied the set at 12 and then the two teams traded side outs the next nine points. Bailey Cummings recorded a kill to give CU two consecutive points and an 18-16 advantage.
- Indiana Tech regained the lead 21-20 after three consecutive points.
- The Golden Eagles responded with a 5-0 run that saw a trio of kills to give CU the 25-21 set four win and the match victory.
