ADRIAN, Mich. – The Golden Eagles were pushed to five sets for the first time this season, but came out victorious to keep the undefeated season alive, winning 25-21, 21-25, 18-25, 15-10 at Siena Heights. Cornerstone was dominant on the block tonight, recording a season high 10 team blocks to improve to 11-0, 7-0 WHAC. CU will conclude a two game WHAC road trip at Lourdes on Friday at 7 p.m.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – Siena Heights – (25-21, 21-25, 25-17, 18-25, 15-10)
- Cornerstone got off to a slow start in set one as Siena Heights took an 8-3 that saw a trio of Samantha Getson kills.
- Alexis Angus recorded a kill to cap off a 4-0 run tying the set for the first time at 13 all. SHU then called a timeout.
- After the timeout, Cornerstone scored five more points to increase the run to 9-0 and take an 18-13 lead. Alexis Angus recorded six kills in the nine-point burst.
- SHU responded to cut the set one deficit to just one, but a pair of blocks from Jackie Stanko and Alexis Angus gave Cornerstone the 25-21 set one win.
- Kaley Vaughn started set two at setter. CU fell behind 9-6 forcing them into an early timeout.
- A Kill by Bailey Cummings cut the deficit to just one, but a 6-1 run by the Saints made it 18-12 in set two and forced CU into their second timeout.
- Kayla Clark re-entered as the setter which spurred a 9-5 Golden Eagle run.
- SHU's Aubrey Bates recorded a kill to win set two 25-21 and tie the match at one all.
- In set three, Bailey Cummings got CU off to a great start with four kills to lead 9-4.
- Riley Walters recorded a pair of service aces in another 4-0 run by CU as they took command 15-8 in set three.
- Cornerstone coasted to a set three victory 25-17, as Madison Herrema recorded the final kill.
- Siena Heights got off to a strong set in set four taking a 10-4 lead on a Kinsey Wagner kill.
- CU could not get out of their own way in set four recording nine errors in the first 24 points as they trailed 17-7.
- Despite a large comeback, the Saints took set four, 25-18.
- In Cornerstone's first five set match of the season, the two teams traded points throughout as things sat tied at six.
- After SHU took an 8-6 lead, CU responded with a 5-1 run to go on top 11-9 and force SHU into a timeout. Alexis Angus recorded a huge block, her seventh of the game in the run.
- After the timeout, Cornerstone continued to put the match away as Brooke Nicholson recorded the match sealing kill to give CU the 15-10 set five victory.
