Women's Volleyball moves to 12-0 after 3-1 victory at Lourdes

SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Women's Volleyball team took on Lourdes on Friday night in search of their 12th straight victory. After dropping a tight first set, Cornerstone won the next three to win the match 3-1, improving their record to 12-0, 8-0 WHAC. Cornerstone will step away from WHAC action on Friday night when they host Saint Xavier inside Mol Arena for a 6 p.m. match. 


Game Recap: Cornerstone 3 – Lourdes 1 (22-25, 25-11, 25-17, 25-15)
  • A trio of kills and a Bailey Cummings service ace in the middle of the first set gave Cornerstone an early 9-4 lead. 
  • Lourdes clawed their way back into the game and tied the set at 11-11
  • A kill by Rylie Walters gave CU an 18-15 lead, but a string of four consecutive CU errors eventually allowed Lourdes to claim the first set 25-22
  • The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the second set. They then used a 5-0 run to double up Lourdes once again at 16-8. 
  • Two straight service aces from Kayla Clark sealed a 25-11 set two victory for CU, knotting the match at 1-1. 
  • The teams traded points in the early goings of the third set up until the score was 15-15. Lourdes took the next two points to take a 17-15 advantage, but the Golden Eagles rattled off ten straight points to win the set 25-17 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
  • The Golden Eagles thrived offensively in the fourth set, racking up 16 kills while Lourdes had seven.
  • Bailey Cummings put the finishing touches on the match with back-to-back kills to close out a 25-15 fourth set.
