GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The number 21 Golden Eagles pushed their win streak to seven straight after a quick turnaround non-conference game with Spring Arbor that they were able to win 25-22, 25-15, 22-25, 25-17. Cornerstone is now 19-2 on the year as they close out the conference season at Concordia on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Spring Arbor – 1 (25-22, 25-15, 22-25, 25-17)
- After trailing 5-4, Kayla Sauers came in and served to spark a 4-0 run that was capped off by a Brooke Nicholson and Olivia Keelean block.
- Spring Arbor responded with a 4-1 run to tie things up at 9-9.
- A service ace by Patsy Morris forced the Cougars into their first timeout, as Cornerstone led 16-12.
- After the timeout, Spring Arbor was able to chip away and tie things up again at 21 on a McKenna Peters kill and force the Golden Eagles to use their first timeout.
- Cornerstone scored four of the last five points to win set one 25-22 on an Alexis Angus kill.
- CU scored the first four points of set two with a pair of kills and an ace from Kayla Clark.
- Spring Arbor responded to cut the deficit to two, but the Golden Eagles followed that with a 5-0 run that saw a pair of kills from Bailey Cummings and forced the Cougars into a timeout at 12-5.
- Cornerstone continued to roll throughout set two, winning 25-15 and hitting .286.
- To begin set three, the two teams traded 3-0 runs to sit tied at three.
- Three straight kills from Bailey Cummings helped the Golden Eagles take a 12-9 lead as part of a 4-0 run.
- Spring Arbor responded with a 6-0 run of their own capped off by a block from Sarah Eliason and Claudia Ellis to regain the lead 15-12 and force CU into a timeout.
- Cornerstone responded with a 5-0 run to take an 18-16 lead with the last two points coming on a pair of Bailey Cummings service aces.
- Spring Arbor responded to take a 21-19 lead and force Cornerstone into their second timeout.
- The Cougars held off the CU comeback and won set three 25-22 to force a fourth.
- The Golden Eagles came out hot in set four, getting out to a 7-2 lead that saw a pair of Jackie Stanko kills.
- Spring Arbor battled back, using a pair of blocks to cut the deficit to one at 14-13 and again force Cornerstone into a timeout.
- SAU tied things at 15, but Cornerstone responded with a 3-0 run that saw back-to-back Cougar errors to make it 18-15.
- Cornerstone ended the set on a 10-2 run to win the match with a 25-17 set four victory.
