LIMA, Ohio – Cornerstone traveled to Ohio on Friday for a doubleheader against Northwestern Ohio. Cornerstone claimed a 9-5 victory in game one before a tough 14-4 setback in game two. The split brings Cornerstone's record to 15-10, 10-4 WHAC heading into a pivotal doubleheader against Indiana Tech on Sunday. Cornerstone and Indiana Tech are tied for second place in the standings, both just one game back of Concordia.
Game one
- Cornerstone struck first when a run came home off the bat of Daniel Freeman in the second inning.
- Northwestern Ohio claimed the lead in the third inning by plating two runs, making it 2-1
- The Racers pushed their lead to two with another run in the fourth inning.
- With two runners in scoring position, Eric Bradberry knotted the game at 3-3 with a base hit to center field.
- JC Salinas, Daniel Freeman, and Joshua Magley went single, double, triple – all of which drove in a run – to make it 6-3 in the sixth inning.
- UNOH shortened the lead to 6-5 with a two run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning
- Austin Hurt provided an insurance run in the seventh inning with a solo home run to make it 7-5.
- George Cutler capped off the scoring with a two-run home run in the ninth inning to push CU's lead to 9-5, which proved to be the final.
- Chandler McKinney went eight strong innings, surrendering nine hits and five earned runs with six strikeouts.
Game two
- Eric Bradberry, the first batter of the game, sent a long ball over the fence in left field to give CU an early 1-0 lead.
- The Racers evened the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning.
- Joshua Magley put CU back on top with an RBI single in the second inning.
- Northwestern Ohio plated three runs in the bottom of the second inning to make it 4-2.
- Cornerstone loaded the bases in the third inning and was able to score one thanks to a hit-by-pitch, but left three runners on base, making it 4-3.
- The Racers doubled their score in the fourth inning to break the game open at 8-3. They then added another in the fifth and two more in the sixth to extend their lead to 11-3.
- Each side scored one more in the seventh inning thanks to RBI doubles, with Austin Hurt responsible for Cornerstone's.
- The game came to a close in the eighth inning when UNOH plated two more runs, making it 14-4.
