Baseball splits in long double-header at Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Golden Eagles traveled to Indiana Tech over the weekend for a makeup double-header against a team that sits right at the top of the conference with Cornerstone and the two teams split with CU falling 5-1 in game one and then winning game two 11-7 in 13 innings. Austin Hurt led the way with two home runs in the double-header as well as a clutch RBI single as Cornerstone heads into the final week of the regular season with a 16-11, 11-5 WHAC record. The final week is full of action, as CU travels to Cleary on Tuesday for a 1 p.m. double-header to open a stretch of six games in five days.

Game One – Indiana Tech – 5 Cornerstone - 1
  • After two scoreless innings to begin game one, the Warriors found a run in the third on a single from McGhee that scored Saint to make it 1-0.
  • Austin Hurt responded for the Golden Eagles in the sixth with a solo HR that tied the game 1-1.
  • Indiana Tech got to the Cornerstone bullpen in the seventh after a flawless 4.1 innings from Dylan VandenBerg, scoring four in the inning with an RBI single, double, and two RBI triple to make it 5-1.
  • The CU offense was held to just five hits as they could not muster up a response and they fell in game one, 5-1.
