GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles welcomed Madonna to De Witt field on Friday for WHAC doubleheader. Cornerstone used a seven-run eighth inning in game one to win 11-3 before falling short in a less eventful 3-1 setback in game two. The split brings Cornerstone's record to 13-7, 8-2 WHAC heading into Monday's doubleheader against Concordia, who currently is receiving votes nationally and sits second in the WHAC standings behind only Cornerstone.
Game one: Cornerstone 11 – Madonna 3
- Cornerstone struck first when Grant Young hit a two RBI triple to right field in the second inning. Joshua Magley followed with an RBI single to score Young, making it 3-0.
- Madonna got on the board by scoring two unearned runs in the fourth inning to make it 3-2.
- Landon Poll pushed Cornerstone's lead up 4-2 with an RBI single in the fifth inning.
- Madonna loaded the bases with nobody out in the sixth inning, but Jared Riley was able to get a popout and two flyouts to get out of the inning unharmed.
- The Golden Eagles broke the game open by sending 12 batters to the plate in the eight inning, plating seven runs to push the score to 11-2.
- Madonna tacked on one run in the top of the ninth inning before Cornerstone closed it out, making the final score 11-3.
- After Zach Brog pitched three scoreless innings, Jared Riley pitched the final six innings and surrendered only five hits and one earned run.
Game two: Cornerstone 1 – Madonna 3
- Game two was quiet until the fifth inning when the Crusaders scored the game's first run with a sacrifice fly.
- George Cutler came through with a clutch two out RBI single to tie the game at 1-1 in the sixth inning.
- A solo home run and an RBI single from Madonna in the eighth inning gave the Crusaders a 3-1 lead.
- Dylan VandenBerg got out of a bases-loaded, one out jam in the top of the ninth inning unharmed.
- Austin Hurt led off the bottom of the ninth with a triple to deep right center field, but was stranded on third as the game came to a close by a score of 3-1.
