GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) has released the Fred Smith Commissioner's Cup standings for the 2020-21 season and Cornerstone has finished third with 167.0 points. After there was no trophy for the 2019-20 athletics year due to COVID-19, Cornerstone finds themselves improved four spots from the 2018-19 athletics year. The last time CU finished this high was back in 2013-14 when the programs combined for 90 points to finish second overall.

The Golden Eagles won the all-sports trophy in 2006-07 and finished second in 2002-03, 2003-04, 2013-14, and 2014-15. Indiana Tech won this year's all-sports trophy with a total of 255.0 points, while Aquinas finished second with 193.0 points. Points are decided based on athletic programs conference standings and tournament standings.

Cornerstone's points came in a multitude of areas this season with both the men and women's programs scoring high. CU saw 25 points come from the men's cross country team and 15 from the women's cross country team. Another 42 points came from the men's and women's indoor and outdoor track & field programs. Other scorers included: women's volleyball with 25, men's basketball with 12, women's soccer with 10, baseball with 10, men's soccer with seven, men's bowling with seven, women's basketball with six, women's bowling with six, women's golf with five, and men's golf with three.

Named after longtime Siena Heights athletics director Fred Smith for his outstanding contributions to the league, the WHAC Fred Smith Commissioner's Cup is computed using 12 sports (six men's and six women's) for each school. Points are awarded in descending order to full WHAC members based on regular season standings in each conference sport plus an additional five points to the conference tournament champion. The point allocation, for those conference sports sponsored by eight (8) or more WHAC members, is 20 points for first place, 15 for second place, 12 points for third place, 10 points for fourth place, eight points for fifth place, seven points for sixth place, and so on. The conference tournament champion for sports without regular season standings will receive 25 points with the rest of the point allocations following the same format listed above.
