GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles took on another tough opponent in NCAA DIII Calvin University and fell 5-1 on Wednesday evening to drop to 1-5-1 on the year. Cornerstone hung around until the final 15 minutes when the Knights scored three goals to pull away and make the final score look lopsided. CU will begin conference play in their next match vs. Madonna on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Highlights:
- Calvin did not take long to find the scoreboard as a ball by Chris Schau was placed just past CU keeper Ethan Pike off the assist from Coleman Ulry to give the Knights a 1-0 edge.
- Jeff Herrema got his legs tangled with a Calvin player and earned a yellow card in the 25th minute.
- Right before the half, Calvin scored a second goal as Ethan Brown sat wide open inside the six-yard box and teammate Zach Flowerday found him for an easy goal to make it 2-0.
- Boston Knapp recorded a shot just before the half but it went wide, ending the first half down 2-0.
- CU showed great energy to begin the second half, as Jeff Herrema found the net on a beautiful left footed shot in the 67th minute to make it 2-1. Dani Carrillo recorded the assist on the goal, cutting the deficit to one.
- Calvin immediately responded though, retaking command of the game with three goals in the span of 10 minutes to go on top 5-11.
- Cornerstone had two late shots, but neither on net which resulted in a 5-1 loss for the Golden Eagles.

Cornerstone opens WHAC play against one of the best in the conference back here at CU Soccer Field in Saturday, September 25 at 7 p.m. Madonna and Cornerstone will compete at the conclusion of the women's game.
