GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Back at full strength and back in Mol Arena, the Golden Eagles won their first match in a week, defeating UM-Dearborn 25-16, 25-16, 25-18. Cornerstone evens their record to 10-10 overall, and 5-2 in the WHAC.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 UM-D – 0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-18)
- With CU up 6-7 early, UM-Dearborn capitalized on four straight Golden Eagle attacking errors and an ace to go on a five-point run to lead 11-7.
- Cornerstone responded with a run of their own rattling off 7 points in a row, capped by an Olivia Keelean kill to go up 17-14.
- CU went on another run, this time for five points to run their first set lead to 22-15.
- Rylie Walters ended the set with a kill, as the Golden Eagles won 25-16.
- After a back-and-forth start to the second set, UM-Dearborn recorded six straight errors and gave up two kills to the Golden Eagles, allowing for an eight-point CU run to take a 12-4 lead.
- The rest of the second set was back and forth and capped by two Wolverine attacking errors to give CU another 25-16 set.
- The third set proved to be the tightest with UM-Dearborn taking an early 7-5 lead after a Kielee Tondryk kill.
- CU rebounded with a four-point run capped by a Rylie Walters kill as the Golden Eagles took a 9-7 lead.
- With the Wolverines up 10-9, Cornerstone struck again as they went on a five-point run that featured three straight aces by Rylie Walters to take a 14-10 lead.
- More back-and-forth action finished up the third set, as Rylie Walters put away the final kill to win the set and the match for the Golden Eagles.
