GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Men's Soccer team faced a tough opponent in nationally ranked opponent in UNOH. It was all UNOH in this from the start of the game as they scored in the 6th minute and never looked back and won the game 4-1. Cornerstone moves to 5-5-4 (2-4-1) on the season as they head to Lawrence Tech on Wednesday, October 19 for a 7 p.m. game.
Game Highlights
• In the 6th minute, UNOH was able to find the back of the net as Moritz Guettel found the back of the net giving them the 1-0 lead.
• UNOH extended their lead 2-0 after Bjarne Renner had a nifty play where he kicked the ball in the air over the defender to himself and right past the Golden Eagle goalie in the 14th minute.
• Cornerstone had an opportunity in the 22nd minute but the shot by
Boston Knapp was saved by the Racer's goalie.
• After some slight confusion going on in the box, resulting in a handball by the Cornerstone goalie, UNOH had a free kick in the box and extended their lead 3-0 as Lucas Vazquez kicks it in.
• UNOH had all the control in the first half as they head into halftime leading 3-0.
• Cornerstone had an opportunity to score in the 51st minute but the shot by
Calvin Curtis sailed just high.
• Cornerstone gets into the action in the 64th minute as a pass by
Jeff Herrema finds the foot of
Tyler Corstange to cut the deficit to 3-1.
• UNOH responded quickly to the Cornerstone goal in the 66th minute as Diego Cerezo finds the back of the net extending their lead 4-1.
• UNOH would take control of the remainder of the half winning the game 4-1.
