LTU offense scores six to drop Men’s Soccer on the road

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Offense was the name of the game on Wednesday night between Cornerstone and Lawrence Tech as eight total goals were scored in a 6-2 loss for the Golden Eagles. CU gave up three early goals and could never recover as they drop their fourth straight match to fall to 5-6-4, 2-5-1 WHAC on the year. The road will not get any easier as they take on undefeated Madonna on Saturday in Livonia at 3 p.m.

The Highlights:
  • It did not take long for the Blue Devils to break through the Golden Eagle defense as Cesar Nunez scored his second goal of the season on a through ball inside the box in the seventh minute.
  • Cornerstone responded with an eight-minute run of offense that saw six shots including two from Calvin Curtis and two from Jeff Herrema but they were unable to find an equalizer.
  • LTU then went on an offensive serge and found a second goal as Skander Larfaouri beat keeper Ethan Pike to make it 2-0.
  • Just four minutes later in the 27th minute, Skander Larfaouri found the net again on a chip shot over Ethan Pike's head to increase their advantage to 3-0.
  • Before halftime, CU would find one goal as Braeden Stewart got his foot on the ball inside a crowded box and beat the Blue Devil keeper to the right side to make it 3-1.
  • CU trailed 3-1 at the half.
  • Right out the gate in the second half, Lawrence Tech took offensive control yet again. In the 52nd minute they scored a fourth goal from Alex Fernandez his fourth of the year.
  • Cornerstone held LTU off the scoreboard for about 20 mins after that but could not find any offense.
  • In the 70th minute Alex Fernandez would score again to make it 5-1.
  • Tyler Corstange found a goal in the 77th minute to put Cornerstone back within three at 5-2.
  • With just two minutes remaining and multiple subs on the field, LTU would score a sixth goal from Ty Cerget to take the match 6-2.

By the Numbers:
6 – Six goals are the most the Golden Eagles have given up in the 2022 season.
.500 – CU drops below .500 on the year for the first time at 5-6-4.
9 – Tyler Corstange is now one goal away from tying Isaac Grotenhuis mark from 2012 of 10 for the most goals in a decade.
