LIMA, Ohio – The Golden Eagles shoot over 50% again and score a season second best 105 points in a dominant road victory at Northwestern Ohio this afternoon. CU got off to a slow start but scored 57 in the second half to earn the 105-73 win and improve to 4-1, 2-0 WHAC on the year. Cornerstone heads home on Wednesday for the home opener vs. Madonna at 7:30 p.m., which will also be Pack the House night.
Game Flow
- In a small gym that is often difficult for opponents to adjust to, Cornerstone got off to a slow start. CU fell behind 7-2 after a three from Jaden Causwell.
- Causwell continued his strong start to the game, giving the Racers a nine-point lead with another made three just three and a half minutes into the game.
- Carter Nyp got hot offensively, scoring five straight points to cut the deficit to 14-10.
- Zac Velthouse hit a three with 10:28 to play in the first half to give CU their first lead, 24-23.
- An 11-2 run by the Golden Eagles later in the half put them in firm command at 35-30. Carter Nyp hit a pair of threes in the run, while Luke Rowlinson capped it off with a three of his own.
- Cedric Delancy Jr. of the Racers helped them to stay in the game with a layup that again cut the deficit back to one with 2:40 to play in the first half.
- Cornerstone ended the first half on a 10-1 run to lead 48-38 at the intermission.
- The second half began with a Golden Eagle 8-2 run with player's getting easy layups, as Carter Nyp, Eli Steffen, and Cory Ainsworth all scored down low. CU increased their lead to 56-40 for the largest of the game at that point.
- UNOH's Cam Miles helped them cut the deficit to as low as seven at the free throw line.
- Cory Ainsworth started to take over down low mid second half hitting a big and-one to go back on top 68-53 with 11:53 to play.
- Ainsworth's and one was part of a Golden Eagle 13-0 run that increased the advantage to 22 with 9:16 to play.
- The offensive dominance continued as Mason Brooks hit a layup with 6:02 left to make it 90-60.
- CU saw some bench players get some action late in another dominant performance as they took home a 105-73 road victory at Northwestern Ohio, improving to 2-0 in WHAC play.
