GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles started playoff volleyball with a strong sweep of Concordia in the WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal for their 30
th consecutive victory. The defense was dominant all night long with 66 total digs and 10 blocks in the victory as CU held Concordia to a negative hitting percentage. CU will now host both semifinal games on Friday and the final on Saturday regardless of the result. The Golden Eagles will play the winner of Madonna and UM-Dearborn at 7:30 p.m. on Friday for the WHAC Tournament Semifinal.
Game Recap: #20 Cornerstone – 3 Concordia (25-13, 25-23, 25-11)
- Both sides opened the match with a hard-hitting attack and some great defense. Cornerstone created an 8-4 advantage after a big block from Aubrey Lenz and Kylie Barron and a diving dig from Patsy Morris that led to a kill from Kathryn Detweiler.
- Back-to-back Concordia attack errors led to a Cardinal timeout, trailing 11-5.
- Cornerstone cruised through the first set, winning 25-13. The block continued to score big points as Kaylee Dykema and Olivia Keelean combined for one while the Concordia offense hit negative in the first set.
- Concordia cleaned up the offense early in set two, winning some long rallies and going on top 11-7 with back-to-back kills from Claudia Grepke and a service ace from Kayla Peters.
- Claudia Grepke recorded another great kill after the longest rally of the match to put Concordia on top 12-8, continuing their second set momentum.
- After CU recorded a side out, Regan Vaughn did what she does best and stifled the Cardinal momentum with a dominant serve. Vaughn recorded two aces as Cornerstone went on a 5-0 run to tie set two at 13.
- Concordia would not give in as they went back up by two at 20-18 on an Aubrey Lenz service error.
- The veteran Golden Eagles found a way as they have all year though. Kaylee Dykema recorded two kills and combined for a block to seal a 25-23 set two comeback victory.
- It was all Golden Eagles early in set three as they refused to let the ball hit the floor, forcing three consecutive Concordia errors to lead 7-1 and force a timeout.
- Later in the set, Rylie Walters recorded an excellent roll shot kill to put CU on top 9-3.
- A Kylie Barron kill put Cornerstone on top 21-10 and forced Concordia to use their final timeout.
- Kills from Olivia Keelean and Kathryn Detweiler helped CU cruise to a 25-11 set three victory to take the match sweep over Concordia and move on to the WHAC Tournament Semifinal.

What's Next?
Cornerstone will now play the winner of UM-Dearborn and Madonna inside Mol Arena for the WHAC Tournament Semifinal. That game will take place at 7:30 p.m. with the other WHAC Tournament Semifinal taking place at 5 p.m. also inside Mol Arena. The All-Conference awards will be presented between games to the teams in attendance.
