GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles won their second game vs. UNOH in the same week with a 59-48 victory at home behind the powerhouse performance of
Stephanie Ainsworth who scored a career high 19. CU moves to 5-20, 2-14 WHAC on the year as they will continue the busy home stretch to end the regular season vs. Lawrence Tech on Valentine's Day at 5:30 p.m.
Game Flow:
- UNOH got two and-one opportunities in the first three minutes, converting one of two to go on top 5-0 in a foul ridden first quarter.
- Kennedy Helderop scored the first points for CU nearly three minutes into the game with a three ball to spark a 5-0 run and tie the game at five.
- A late layup by Ellen Kresge put Cornerstone down by one at the end of the first quarter, 13-12.
- Maddie Downing continued to find ways to get to the free throw line for Northwestern Ohio, hitting two free throws to start the second quarter for the first points of the period.
- Olivia Kubik later hit a three to tie the game at 15. Ellen Kresge went 1-2 at the free throw line for Cornerstone's first lead of the game, 16-15.
- The final three minutes of the second the two teams traded free throw attempts as Cornerstone held a 26-23 advantage at halftime.
- Kaycee Sluiter and Emma Costen each hit buckets to start the third, increasing the CU lead to its largest so far at seven, 30-23.
- Stephanie Ainsworth later hit a huge and-one layup that put Cornerstone on top by 11 with 5:28 to play in the third.
- UNOH ended the third on a 16-4 run to take their first lead of the second half 41-40.
- The Wayland duo of Stephanie Ainsworth and Parrish Hudson gave Cornerstone a 6-0 run early in the fourth to regain command, 49-43.
- A layup from Kennedy Helderop put CU back on top by double figures at 11 with three minutes to play.
- Stephanie Ainsworth dominated the fourth quarter, and scored a career high 19 points with 15 of those in the second half to earn a 59-48 victory over the Racers.
