Men's Basketball Drops Madonna 82-69

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  – Christian Rodriguez went on an offensive tear, scoring a career-high 40 points in the Cornerstone win over Madonna 82-69. Cornerstone led 51-29 at the half behind 15 points from Rodriguez. He then sealed the game with 25 second-half points. After defeating Madonna, Cornerstone will clinch the 2-seed in the WHAC tournament with a win over Lourdes on Saturday. The Golden Eagles move to 20-9 overall, 14-5 in the WHAC.

What you need to know? 
  • 30 seconds into the game, Carter Nyp got the Golden Eagles on the board with a three.
  • Carter Nyp hit another three a few minutes later as CU took an 11-5 lead with 16:18 left in the first half.
  • After Madonna got close midway through the first half, Christian Rodriguez hit a big three with 7:58 remaining in the half.
  • Christian Rodriguez scored the last five points for the Golden Eagles when he after hitting three, then cashing in a jumper with three seconds in the half to give CU a 51-29 lead at the break.
  • Christian Rodriguez got off to a hot start, scoring the first seven Golden Eagle points to begin the second half.
  • A few minutes later, Christian Rodriguez scored 12 straight points for CU, highlighted by a pair of threes, to give the Golden Eagles a 71-64 lead with 2:52 remaining in the game.
  • Cornerstone would hold off Madonna's comeback bid as the Golden Eagles won 82-69.
