AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Golden Eagle pitching staff could not slow down a tough Concordia lineup as they fell 15-9 in game one and 14-2 in game two for a pair of losses.
Austin Hurt continued his tear with two more home runs in the first game, but it was not enough as CU falls to 5-7 on the year. Cornerstone will have Sunday off and then return to Lake Myrtle on Monday for another GPAC opponent in Dordt College out of Iowa.
Game One – (18) Concordia – 15 Cornerstone – 9
- Freshman starter Josiah Stairs could not find the strike zone, walking two batters and hitting one for an early exit. Brody Nelson came in during the first inning to replace stairs.
- Nelson would get the first out on a sacrifice fly that scored a run for the Bulldogs to make it 1-0. Back-to-back hits later in the inning scored three more runs for Concordia to increase their lead to 4-0 after the first.
- After Jake Collins and Isaac Tayes both got on, Collins would score to get the Golden Eagles their first run of the game in the bottom of the second.
- Jordan Wenzel got the Golden Eagles first hit of the game in the bottom of the third which forced Concordia to go to the bullpen, bringing in Jordan Lycan.
- Jake Collins again and Isaac Tayes each again found themselves in the middle of things later in the bottom of the third, each hitting RBI singles to score Jordan Wenzel and Austin Hurt to chip away at the CUNE lead, 4-3.
- In the top of the fourth, Concordia hit two deep doubles to right center to score a run and increase the lead back to two. Brody Nelson did a great job to avoid any further trouble and keep CU within two at 5-3.
- Austin Hurt made his presence known yet again in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run to right center field to tie the game 5-5. This served as Hurt's seven HR of the year.
- Concordia put up a five spot in the top of the fifth to break open the lead again, highlighted by a two-run HR from their lead-off hitter Jay Adams to make it 10-5 Bulldogs. Brody Nelson was relieved for Cam VanPutten midway through the inning.
- Grant Young doubled in the bottom of the fifth and later scored on a wild pitch to get one run back and make it 10-6.
- Concordia immediately got that run back in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly to bring their lead back to five.
- The Bulldog bats continued to record clutch at bats in the top of the sixth, adding four more runs to balloon the lead to 14-6.
- Austin Hurt continued his tear with yet another home run in the bottom of the sixth, this time a solo shot to bring the deficit back to seven. Later in the inning George Cutler hit a two RBI double to bring it back to 14-9 as the offenses continued to dominate.
- Concordia added one more run in the seventh and went on to win game one, 15-9.
Game Two – (18) Concordia – 14 Cornerstone – 2
- The Golden Eagles were the visitor in game two and Austin Hurt, although he did not homer this time, he hit an RBI single to score Trenton Gilman and make it 1-0.
- Similar to game one, Concordia got some early runs scoring four with an RBI single, a fielder's choice, a bases loaded walk, and a sacrifice fly. They forced starter Alex Hayward out of the game in the first as well as Ben Barnes relieved him and got out of the inning trailing 4-1.
- After one and a half innings of scoreless baseball, the Concordia seven-hole hitter roped a triple to left center that scored two and made it 6-1.
- Later in the inning a wild pitch scored the CUNE seventh run and then a second triple in the inning ended Ben Barnes time on the mound as he was relieved by Andrew VanDyke.
- Concordia added two more runs with a home run ball in the third to move the lead to 9-1. The lead continued to grow as CU was unable to get out of the third until seven runs crossed, trailing 11-1.
- A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth added another run for the Bulldogs, 12-1.
- Keaton Candor continued the Concordia hitting barrage with a double that hopped over Landon Poll's glove at third and made it 13-1 in the fourth. Another double scored Candor and brought it to 14-1. Both runs were scored with two outs in the inning.
- Concordia subbed six of their nine starters in the final two innings as they went on to win game two, 14-2.

Austin Hurt continued his tear at the plate recording his seventh and eighth home runs of the season in the first game.

What's Next?
Cornerstone is off on Sunday. The team will return to Lake Myrtle Sports Complex on Monday when they take on Dordt College for a 2:30 p.m. double-header.
