Two more All-Americans as men finish 47th; Women 16th at NAIA Outdoor Nationals

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Two more NAIA All-Americans crowned on the final day of the Outdoor Championships as Nygia Pollard earned fifth in the 3000m Steeplechase and Luke Pohl finished eighth in the 5000m. The Cornerstone men finished 44th overall earning seven team points, while the women finished 16th with 15 total team points. The Cornerstone 2021-22 athletic year has now come to an end and CU will hit the summer to begin preparing for 2022-23.

Men's Results:
After his All-American performance in the 10,000m last night, Luke Pohl ended CU action at NAIA Nationals in the 5000m. He pushed through everything he had to sit in second for much of the race. Fatigue did not allow him to kick with the top group but he held on to another NAIA All-American honor earning eighth overall with a time of 15:00.67.

Women's Results:
Brenna Stratton got Cornerstone started bright and early at 7 a.m. EST time in the half marathon. This event was moved from a full to a half marathon this year and Stratton was able to finish with a solid time of 1:41:41. She finished 25th of 30 women who started the race as three athletes did not finish the race.

In the heat of the beautiful sunny day three in Gulf Shores, Nygia Pollard looked for redemption in the 3000m steeplechase finals. She got just that with an excellent kick, passing three athletes in the final 1200m to finish fifth. She just edged out Gracie Long from Corban at the finish line with a time of 10:44.94. Pollard earns her first steeplechase NAIA All-American honor since 2019 with her mark.

Battling injury all outdoor season, true freshman Anna Martin gave it a go in her first event in Gulf Shores in the 5000m. She held with the top group of eight for the first 1400m but then fell into 10th as the top group created their separation. Martin did an outstanding job to stay in that second group much of the race, but ended up finishing 14th overall with a time of 18:24.57.

What's Next?
The Golden Eagles outdoor track & field season has come to an end. The teams will hit summer break and the respective distance athletes will begin training for cross country starting in August of 2022.
