Three more Individual WHAC Champions for Track & Field as the men finish fifth and women third

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Luke Pohl, Haley Nieuwkoop, and Nygia Pollard all earned individual WHAC Titles to cap off the WHAC Championships hosted by Concordia for a total of six on the weekend. The Golden Eagle men finish fifth overall with a total of 93.5 points while the women finish third with 116 team points. Cornerstone will now compete in a few last chance meets before heading to NAIA Nationals in the end of May. 
 
Men's Results:
The first points on day two for Cornerstone's men's team came from the 4x100 crew of David Dwumfour-Poku, Jadyn Courtney, Carter Sabin, and Seth Stoltz. The group finished with a time of 42.38 to finish fifth overall. 
 
Two freshmen stepped up big in mid distance as Jamin Thompson and Logan Churchill each scored with fifth and seventh place finishes respectively in the 1500m. 
 
Over at the throws, Donnie Hurrle picked up sixth place with a throw of 39.80m in the discus. 
 
The 400m runners then came to play dominating the event. All four placers PR'd with David Dwumfour-Poku finishing second with a time of 48.98, Elijah Wallace finishing third with a time of 49.32, Jadyn Courtney finishing fifth with a time of 50.97, and Kanjengo Muzungu finishing eighth with a time of 51.26. 
 
Back at the field events, Blake Hildenbrand snuck in the top eight overall with a triple jump of 12.53m to finish eighth overall and earn one team point. 
 
Luke Pohl then saw his first action on the weekend as he cruised to a 5k WHAC Championship with a mark of 14:33.34. Nate Vruggink finished third with a PR of 15:22.10 and Jamin Thompson also PR'd and scored in fifth with a time of 15:26.63. 
 
The night ended with a fourth-place finish in the men's 4x400 from David Dwumfour-Poku, Elijah Wallace, Ross Hunter, and Jackson Lincoln with a time of 3:25.79. 
 
Women's Results: 
The women's 4x100 crew was the first to score on day two with a sixth-place time of 50.54 from Tatum Townsend, Morgan Vargo, Chelsee Martino, and Halle Schnyders
 
Nygia Pollard won her WHAC Title in the 1500m next with a time of 4:43.41. Kori Baumann finished third with a time of 5:01.3 and Tori VanderVeen finished seventh with a time of 5:24.74.
 
In the women's 100m hurdle finals, Braely Herrema earned seventh to score two points with a mark of 15.71. 
 
In the women's shot put, Jenna Breuker and Anna VanTubergen each scored with big marks. Breuker recorded a throw of 11.22m and VanTubergen threw 11.04m to finish seventh. 
 
Faith Kurtz had an outstanding 400m hurdles with a huge PR and third place finish of 1:08.82. Chelsee Martino also had a huge PR and finished right behind Kurtz with a time of 1:09.40. 
 
The CU women recorded a 1-2 sweep in the 5000m with Haley Nieuwkoop taking home the WHAC Championship with a time of 18:29.85. Nygia Pollard finished second with a time of 18:52.22. Kiarra Lambert snuck in eighth with a massive PR and first time under 20 minutes with a time of 19:57.20. 
 
The women's 4x400 team also scored with a fifth-place mark of 4:08.52. 
 
The night ended with Kaitlin Essig scoring in the long-winded triple jump event, taking home seventh with a 10.49m leap. 
 
What's Next? 
Cornerstone will compete in a few last chance meets before sending the NAIA national qualifiers to Gulf Shores for the Outdoor Championships at the end of may.
