BUTTE, Mont. – The Golden Eagles did not give up on a Saturday afternoon, highlighting their day with a five-set rally to defeat Bushnell in a split at the Montana Tech Tournament. Cornerstone fell in game one, 3-1 to Rocky Mountain and looked in trouble again against Bushnell. However, they won the final three sets to take the match and earn their first victory of the year. CU will now have just under two weeks off before heading back west to Nebraska for the Bellevue Tournament in early September where they will play four more contests.
Game One: Rocky Mountain - 3 Cornerstone - 1 (25-19, 26-24, 23-25, 25-21)
- In a quick turnaround for the Golden Eagles, the team got behind 3-0 to Rocky Mountain on two attack errors from CU.
- A service ace from Patsy Morris later in set one capped off a 4-0 run to put CU behind by just one, 10-9.
- Rocky Mountain responded with a 6-1 run to take command 16-10.
- CU cut it back to as low as four, but a kill from Bella Bryan ended set one in favor of the Bears, 25-19.
- Again CU fell behind early, but a kill from Kathryn Detweiler tied set two up at six.
- Rocky Mountain then scored four straight which was followed by five straight from the Golden Eagles to take the lead. Kylie Barron recorded two kills in the run to force RMC into a timeout at 11-10.
- Rocky Mountain again came out strong from a timeout responding with a 5-0 run to go back on top 15-11.
- A huge block from Kaylee Dykema again transitioned the lead to Cornerstone at 18-17.
- CU had a pair of set points at 24-21, but would drop five straight points in set two to fall 26-24.
- Another big block in set three helped Cornerstone get off to a better start. Aubrey Lenz and Kylie Barron combined for the block to go on top 8-6.
- Neither team could gain a large lead in set three as a kill by Kaylee Dykema tied things at 19.
- Two attack errors from the Bears gave CU a late advantage and Olivia Keelean put RMC away with the final kill to take set three 25-23.
- CU carried the momentum into set four with an Emma Whitley service ace and Rylie Walters kill giving them a 7-5 lead.
- Rocky Mountain responded with a 4-1 run to go on top 11-10.
- A 6-1 run later helped the Bears take command at 19-14.
- A Bear kill from Rhiannon Nez ended set four at 25-21 giving them a four-set victory over the Golden Eagles.
Game Two: Cornerstone – 3 Bushnell – 2 (14-25, 21-25 25-20, 25-19, 16-14)
- Cornerstone got off to a strong start in the first set, scoring six of the first nine points with a big block from Aubrey Lenz and Kylie Barron.
- Bushnell responded with a 12-2 run that saw three service aces to put them on top 15-8.
- The Beacons cruised to a 25-14 set one victory for their largest set victory on the day.
- Jada Thomas recorded two kills early in set two that put Cornerstone on top 9-6.
- Another big Bushnell run gave them command, scoring 11 of 13 points to take command 20-15.
- A kill from Bushnell's Shay Coons ended set two at 25-19.
- A pair of kills from Kylie Barron and Jada Thomas sparked the turnaround for the Golden Eagles in set three as they took a 10-7 edge.
- They would later use a 5-0 run to take command as Bushnell saw six crucial attack errors in the second set.
- Aubrey Lenz recorded the final kill of set three to put CU on the board with a 25-20 set victory.
- Miranda German then sparked the start of set four with back-to-back service aces to go on top 5-1.
- Bushnell would come back to take a lead, but CU used an 8-1 run to respond as again Miranda German capped things off with an ace.
- Kaylee Dykema recorded the final kill that even the score and gave Cornerstone the 25-19 set four victory.
- Kylie Barron scored three of the first seven points for the Golden Eagles in set five on kills.
- A kill from Jada Thomas put Cornerstone up 10-5 and in strong command.
- Bushnell later responded and brought the CU lead to just one at 12-11.
- Hannah Giere the freshman recorded a kill that gave CU two match points at 14-11.
- Bushnell again responded to score three straight and tie the fifth set at 14.
- Cornerstone was able to complete the comeback however as Rylie Walters and Kylie Barron each put balls away for kills to take set five 16-14 and win the match. Cornerstone earns their first win of the year in dramatic fashion, coming back from two sets down.

Hannah Giere in her first ever match played in college recorded a team second best nine kills to help CU in the comeback vs. Bushnell.
2018 – Cornerstone last came back from two sets down to win a match in 2018 when they did it twice against Lourdes and Saint Francis (Ill.)

Kaylee Dykema led CU in kills with 13 in each match. 13 is tied for the third most in her career.
What's Next?
Cornerstone will head back to preseason practice before again going out west to compete in the Bellevue Tournament on September 2-3. The Nebraska tournament will see them play four opponents with two being from Missouri.
