BELLEVUE, Neb. – After nearly a two-week layoff, Cornerstone returned to action and saw the offense click in a pair of victories over Oklahoma City and William Woods at the Bellevue Labor Day Classic. The offense hit above .200 in each contest, as CU defeated Oklahoma City in four and William Woods in three. The Golden Eagles are now .500 on the year at 3-3, as they will close out the tournament tomorrow against (24) Ottawa and Avila at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. EST.
Game One: Cornerstone – 3 Oklahoma City – 1 (26-28, 25-19, 25-16, 25-22)
- Cornerstone opened the first match in Nebraska with a big block from Olivia Keelean and Kaylee Dykema to score first, but Oklahoma City followed with a four-point run to take the lead.
- Two attack errors and an Olivia Keelean service ace put Cornerstone back within one, trailing 8-7.
- The Stars found a 6-2 run mid set that helped them regain control capping it off with a service ace from Ruby Kelley to go on top 17-12.
- Back-to-back kills from Kathryn Detweiler helped CU get back to within two, and later trailing 24-20, CU scored five straight with kills from Olivia Keelean and Kathryn Detweiler to take a 25-24 lead.
- Oklahoma City scored four of the next five however to hold on to win set one, using a block from Emma Nickerson and Rylee Steward to secure the 28-26 set victory.
- Cornerstone and OKC traded a pair of three point runs early in set two, as CU scored three first on an Emma Whitley service ace, Kylie Barron kill, and Rylie Walters kill to go up 6-3. The Stars responded with three straight, highlighted by another Ruby Kelley service ace.
- With it tied 6-6, Cornerstone then took over using a 14-5 run to go on top 20-11. Everyone was getting involved in the offense as the team hit above .300 in the set.
- Just like Cornerstone did in set one, the Stars started to make a comeback in set two, but Rylie Walters eventually put them away with a kill off the pass from Aubrey Lenz to even the match with a 25-19 set victory.
- In set three, the Golden Eagles again used a run to get out to an early lead, scoring six of seven with a service ace from Emma Whitley and a kill from Olivia Keelean.
- Oklahoma City responded to score five of the next six and take the lead 9-8 with two service aces from Catelyn Vargas.
- Trailing 11-10, Cornerstone again turned on the gas, scoring 10 of the next 12 points to take command 20-13. Rylie Walters recorded three kills in the run, while Kathryn Detweiler had two to help the Golden Eagles get the seven-point lead.
- The offense did not let up, as CU took set three 25-16 behind an outstanding .520 hitting percentage.
- Cornerstone rode momentum into set four going up 6-1 on a Rylie Walters service ace.
- The advantage grew to seven at 14-7 with a 3-0 run that saw a pair of attack errors from Oklahoma City.
- Cornerstone had match point at 24-19, but OKC would not go down without a fight, scoring three consecutive points. Rylie Walters ended the run with a kill as CU took set four 25-22.
Game Two: Cornerstone – 3 William Woods – 0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-12)
- Similar to game one, Cornerstone scored first on a big block from Kylie Barron and Kathryn Detweiler.
- Kaylee Dykema took over out of the middle forcing William Woods to use both timeouts, as CU went on an 8-0 run behind four Dykema kills making it 11-3.
- After leading for much of the set, the Owls battled back to cut it to one at 20-19 on back-to-back attack errors from the Golden Eagles.
- Cornerstone would not allow William Woods to take the lead however, as Kathryn Detweiler's kill and an attack error by the Owls gave the Golden Eagles the 25-21 set one win.
- William Woods got off to a much better start in set two, scoring the first three points using two blocks.
- Kathryn Detweiler willed Cornerstone back to within one with three consecutive kills.
- The block continued to help the Owls stay in front recording a 4-0 run to increase the lead back to five at 12-7.
- Kaylee Dykema again powered Cornerstone back with two kills as part of a 5-0 run that tied set two and forced WWU into a timeout.
- Olivia Keelean put the ball away to give Cornerstone the 14-13 edge. CU would not relinquish the lead again until Kassidy Phillips recorded a pair of kills to put William Woods back on top 20-19.
- Three more huge kills from Kaylee Dykema closed out set two as Cornerstone held on to win 25-23.
- Kaylee Dykema and Olivia Keelean combined for a big block early in set three to double up the Owls at 6-3.
- CU added a 5-0 run in the middle of the third with three kills from Kathryn Detweiler to go on top 13-7.
- Patsy Morris recorded three service aces as CU increased the lead to 19-10.
- Cornerstone controlled the entire third set, winning 25-12 for their first match sweep of the year.

Patsy Morris has recorded 20 or more digs in five of the first six matches for CU this season. She is now 50 away from 2,000 in her career.

Rylie Walters led the team with 14 kills in the first match, and
Kaylee Dykema led the team with 15 in the second match. Dykema also hit .462 in the match with just two errors.

Aubrey Lenz recorded 75 assists in the pair of wins.
