GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles continue to find the win column, taking 10 straight from their opponents after losing the first three matches of the 2022 season. CU closed out the AQ/CU Classic with a pair of four set victories over (12) Bellevue and Judson inside Mol Arena. Cornerstone saw a few career highs in the victories as they are now 10-3 on the year. The team gets into the meat of the conference season next weekend as they will host Lourdes and Siena Heights on Friday and Saturday next week.
Game One: #RV Cornerstone – 3 #12 Bellevue – 1 (25-20, 23-25, 34-32, 25-22)
- Kaylee Dykema got Cornerstone started with a kill and a block early in set one to help them get out to a 4-2 advantage against Bellevue who just beat Saint Xavier earlier in the day in four sets.
- The Aubrey Lenz serve dominated as the Golden Eagles went on a 5-0 run that saw a pair of Lenz service aces.
- A kill from Kathryn Detweiler finally forced the Bruins into their first timeout trailing 11-4.
- Bellevue would surge back with an 8-3 run to get back into the set and force Cornerstone into a timeout at 21-19.
- After the timeout, Kathryn Detweiler recorded another huge kill and was part of a block with teammate Kylie Barron to help CU take set one 25-20.
- Cornerstone took their first lead in set two after back-to-back smart placement kills from Kaylee Dykema on a tip and then a blast to the back corner. Dykema later added a block to put CU on top 9-5 and forced a Bruin timeout.
- BU again stormed back, cutting the deficit to two at 15-13 on a kill from Jacki Apel.
- In crunch time of set two, Kylie Barron and Kathryn Detweiler combined for a massive block to put CU up 20-18.
- Bellevue did not give up though, coming back to score seven of the last 10 points and take set two on a kill from Sierra Athen, 25-23.
- Bellevue got off to a strong start in set three taking momentum, as Rosa Reed-Bouley tallied four of the first seven Bruin points via the kill to put them on top 7-3.
- CU responded with six straight points to take a 9-7 edge. Olivia Keelean had a service ace, while new substitute Hannah Giere recorded a kill.
- The Bruins later scored four straight to go on top 17-16. Olivia Keelean ended the run with a kill to tie things back at 17.
- Long rallies were the name of the game late in set three. Aubrey Lenz kept a play alive with an outstanding pancake dig to keep CU alive. Cornerstone trailed 24-21 and was able to rally all the way back in a wild set three to win 34-32 on a Bellevue attack error.
- Two exhausted teams took the floor for set four and traded points early. Kills from Kylie Barron and Kathryn Detweiler helped CU go on a 4-0 run to get on top 8-4.
- Bellevue cut the CU lead to just one at 12-11. However, a 5-0 run by CU forced Bellevue into a timeout at 17-11. Kaylee Dykema combined for a pair of blocks in the run.
- After the timeout, Cornerstone continued to push the issue taking set four 25-22 on a Kylie Barron kill to win the match.
Game Two: #RV Cornerstone – 3 Judson - 1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-21)
- After a quick turnaround from a long game one, Cornerstone came into game two against Judson and got off to a bit of a slow start, falling behind 8-5 on a kill from Emmaline Davey.
- Cornerstone woke back up to tie things at 14 on a pair of kills from Rylie Walters that forced a JU timeout.
- Judson responded with a 5-0 run on two kills from Carolina Cosme to regain control at 21-17.
- CU was unable to make a late comeback, falling 25-23 in set one.
- In set two, Cornerstone took a two-point lead for the first time on a block from Kaylee Dykema to make it 7-5.
- Cornerstone started to take control, again using a block this time from Kaylee Dykema and Kathryn Detweiler to cap a 3-0 run and force a Judson timeout leading 13-9.
- A service ace from Judson's Kara Wicklund tied set two at 19.
- The JU libero went down with an injury on a kill from Aubrey Lenz. She was forced to come out for the end of the set which allowed CU to take momentum. A block from Hannah Giere and Kaylee Dykema as well as a rare kill from Patsy Morris propelled the Golden Eagles to take set two 25-22.
- Jada Thomas saw the floor for the first time in set three as Cornerstone got out to a quick 6-3 advantage.
- A block by Kylie Barron and Hannah Giere helped increase the lead to 9-4 and forced a Judson timeout.
- After a short Eagle run to cut the CU lead to one, the team responded with a 5-0 run that saw a service ace from Patsy Morris.
- Cornerstone cruised the rest of the way, getting more substitutes some action as they took set three 25-14.
- In set four the CU block continued to dominate. Kaylee Dykema again was involved in one with Jada Thomas to help CU go on top 8-5.
- A Jada Thomas kill forced a Judson timeout at 15-12 as CU continued to lead by three.
- Judson came back to take a lead, but Cornerstone would not relinquish the set, winning 25-21 and taking the match in four sets.

10 – Cornerstone has now won 10 straight matches, surpassing their longest win streak from a season ago of nine.
2017 – Cornerstone defeated a top 15 team in the country for the first time since 2017 when CU took down number 11 Eastern Oregon, making it the first top 15 win under Head Coach
