BELLEVUE, Neb. – After a quick night's rest, Cornerstone came out ready to play against #24 Ottawa University Arizona and Avila University. Offense was on fire for both games as Cornerstone hit over .215 in both and 11 services aces a game, giving them the momentum in both games beating both Ottawa and Avila in four sets. Cornerstone is now 5-3 on the year as they head into a busy week that highlights their home opener in the AQ/CU Classic September 9-10.
Game One: Cornerstone – 3 Ottawa (AZ.) – 1 (25-13, 25-19, 23-25, 25-20)
- Cornerstone got out to an early 5-1 lead thanks to a service ace by Miranda German.
- Cornerstone continues their early success in set one as goes onto another 5-1 run highlighted by a service from Aubrey Lenz, extending the lead 10-2.
- Back-to-back kills by Kathryn Detweiler extended Cornerstones lead 16-5 early in the first set.
- Cornerstone went on another 4-point run that was highlighted by another Miranda German ace that extended the lead 23-8.
- Ottawa went on a 3-point run but that isn't enough as Cornerstone wins the first set 25-13.
- Ottawa gets out to the early 4-2 led in set two thanks to back-to-back kills by Payton Treadwell
- Cornerstone responds swiftly by responding with their own 4-1 run taking an early 6-5 lead. With a kill by Olivia Keelean and service ace by Aubrey Lenz.
- In a game of runs in set two, Cornerstone forces Ottawa to take their first timeout while scoring four straight points, extending their lead 15-9. With kills by Olivia Keelean and Aubrey Lenz. Highlighted by a Patsy Morris service ace.
- Straight out of the timeout, Cornerstone goes on another 4-0 run thanks to kills by Kylie Barron and Olivia Keelean that extends the lead 20-11.
- Patsy Morris added another service ace and Kaylee Dykema adds a kill to end set two as Cornerstone wins it 25-19.
- Ottawa, like the second set, gets out to the early lead 5-3. Cornerstone then responded fast with 3 straight points, with kills by Kylie Barron and Rylie Walters to take the early 6-5 lead.
- Ottawa responds with their own 4-0 run to go up 9-6 highlighted by a service ace by Jessica Pearce.
- Was back and forth throughout the first half of the third set, until Ottawa forces Cornerstone to use their first timeout as they extended their lead 16-13.
- Out of the timeout, Ottawa continued to extend their lead as they went on a 6-3 run, making it 22-16 with back-to-back kills by Shea Marovich.
- Cornerstone forces Ottawa to take their first timeout after going on a 4-1 run, pulling within 3 23-20. Highlighted by a service ace by Aubrey Lenz and a kill by Olivia Keelean.
- Cornerstone was able to tie it 23-23, but Ottawa finishes the set with kills by Rylie Henige and Livia De Pra to force a fourth set, winning set three 25-23.
- Cornerstone and Ottawa traded the first 10 points of the fourth set as both teams were tied 5-5.
- Emma Whitley extends Cornerstones lead to four, 13-9 thanks to a service ace, forcing Ottawa to call their first timeout.
- Cornerstone forced Ottawa to take their final timeout after a kill by Kaylee Dykema puts CU up 21-17, continuing her strong play for the match.
- Cornerstone finishes strong in the fourth set, winning 25-20 after kills by sophomores Kylie Barron and Kathryn Detweiler.
Game Two: Cornerstone – 3 Avila – 1 (25-14, 25-20, 22-25, 25-20)
- Just like the previous game, Olivia Keelean continues her strong offensive play and gets the match started with back-to-back kills.
- Cornerstoe continued their early success as they extended their leaded 11-5, highlighted by a kill by Kaylee Dykema as well as a service ace by Patsy Morris.
- Avila had to call their first timeout of the set as a 5-1 run extended Cornerstones lead 16-6. A big solo block by Kaylee Dykema forced the timeout.
- Cornerstone finishes the first set strong with a kill by Kylie Barron and service ace by Olivia Keelean to win set one 25-14.
- Avila and Cornerstone continue to go back and forth to start set two, as it is tied early 6-6.
- Cornerstone slowly starts to pull away as they lead the second set 12-9 after another Kaylee Dykema kill.
- After three quick points by Avila to tie things up at 12, Cornerstone responds with four straight points, highlighted by a service ace by Miranda German to force Avila to take their first timeout, CU leads 16-12.
- After going back and forth with a late run by Avila, Cornerstone holds off to win set two, 25-20. Kills by Jada Thomas, Kaylee Dykema and Hannah Giere.
- Avila got out to an early lead in set three, 4-1. With kills by Kelsey Johnson and D'Ovion Williams.
- Cornerstone went on a 7-4 run where they tie it 8-8 early in set three. Kylie Barron had a kill and Olivia Keelean had another service ace.
- Avila goes on a little run scoring four straight points that gives them the lead 13-10, forcing Cornerstone into their first timeout.
- Cornerstone storms back to tie the match 18-18 after a kill by Aubrey Lenz.
- Avila goes on a late run that sees them forcing a fourth set, winning set three 25-22.
- Patsy Morris starts set four strong with a service ace. Eventually leading early 3-1
- Avila went on a strong 5-0 run that has them take the early 9-7 lead after a service ace by Chase Kallevig.
- Back-to-back service aces by Aubrey Lenz gives Cornerstone the 13-10 lead.
- After getting up 16-11, Avila comes storming back to bring it back within one, 16-15. Kills by Sadie Rann, D'Ovion Williams, and Kelsey Johnson.
- Cornerstone then pulled away late with a key run. Kills by Kaylee Dykema and Rylie Walters helped give the Golden Eagles momentum down the stretch
- Cornerstone finished the weekend going 4-0, winning the fourth set 25-20.

What's Next?
Cornerstone has a busy week next week with five upcoming games. The Golden Eagles start on the road on Wednesday September 7 at Lawrence Tech, starting at 7 p.m. EST. They then host the AQ/CU Classic highlighting four games between two days. On Friday September 9, they host Saint Xavier University at 3 p.m. EST and Indiana University Kokomo at 7 p.m. EST. Saturday September 10 they host Judson at 1 p.m. EST and Bellevue at 3 p.m. EST.
