Women's Volleyball defeats Concordia 3-1 enroute to 17th straight victory

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Cornerstone extended their win streak to a season high 17 games after beating Concordia on the road 3-1. It was another great defensive performance for the Golden Eagles where they totaled 13.0 blocks and 90 digs for the game. Cornerstone also hit over .200 for the game that led to 55 total kills. Cornerstone will look to make it 18 games in a row tomorrow as they host Madonna for the homecoming game at 1 p.m.
Game Highlights: Cornerstone – 3 Concordia – 1 (25-18, 25-11, 22-25, 25-18)
  • Cornerstone got out to a strong start leading the game 7-1, with kills by Olivia Keelean and Kylie Barron. Emma Whitley added two services aces.
  • Has been all Cornerstone so far in the first set as they extend their lead 13-3 after big blocks by Olivia Keelean, Kathryn Detweiler, and Kylie Barron.
  • Concordia closed the gap to within four 21-17, after kills by Kayla Peters and Jessalyn Peavyhouse. Jessalyn also included one service ace.
  • The Golden Eagles closed set one strong with kills by Olivia Keelean, Kathryn Detweiler, and Rylie Walters to win set one 25-18.
  • Just like set one, Cornerstone came out hot in set two going up 7-1 quickly with kills by Kaylee Dykema, Olivia Keelean, and Aubrey Lenz.
  • Olivia Keelean forces the Cardinal timeout after back-to-back kills gives Cornerstone the 10-2 lead.
  • Has continued to be all Cornerstone in set two after Kathryn Detweiler, Kaylee Dykema, Rylie Walters, and Aubrey Lenz extends the Golden Eagle lead 20-9.
  • The Golden Eagles finished out set two strong winning it 25-11. Big blocks by Kaylee Dykema, Aubrey Lenz, and Olivia Keelean highlighted the final points.
  • Concordia got out to an early 4-3 lead in set three after a few attacking errors by the Golden Eagles.
  • Cornerstone took their first lead of set three after going up 12-11 thanks to three straight attack errors by the Cardinals.
  • Concordia and Cornerstone have been going back and forth in set three, tied up 16-16 after kills by Rylie Walters and Kathryn Detweiler.
  • Cornerstone uses their first timeout in set three after Concordia goes on a little 3-0 run to extend their lead 19-16.
  • Concordia stayed just far enough ahead in set three to force another Cornerstone timeout leading 22-19 after attack errors by the Golden Eagles.
  • Cornerstone scored two quick points to force the Cardinal timeout thanks to kills by Kathryn Detweiler and Riley Walters. A 22-21 ballgame.
  • Concordia closes out the third set strong with kills by Hannah Duchene and Claudia Grepke to win it 25-22.
  • Like set three, Concordia came out strong coming out to a 4-1 lead highlighted by a service ace Kayla Peters.
  • Cornerstone responded perfectly going on an 8-1 run extending their lead 9-5. Olivia Keelean has continued her great game as Emma Whitley added another service ace.
  • Rylie Walters gave Cornerstone the 19-10 lead thanks to back-to-back kills forcing Concordia to use their second timeout.
  • Cornerstone finished the set strong winning 25-18 and won the match 3-1. Olivia Keelean and Kathryn Detweiler finished the set strong for the Golden Eagles.
 
By the Numbers:
49 – Aubrey Lenz posted another 40+ assist game, making her just 6 away from 2000 career assists.
38 – Patsy Morris had another spectacular defensive performance with 38 digs.
14/13 – Olivia Keelean led the team in kills with 14 with Rylie Walters right behind her with 13.
8 – Kaylee Dykema led the team in total blacks totaling eight for the game.
4 – Emma Whitley had a great service performance having four service aces.

Cornerstone returns home tomorrow October 1, for a primetime homecoming matchup against Madonna University at 1 p.m.
