GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles could not withstand the deep ball shooting of Lawrence Tech, falling 78-74 at home on Wednesday evening. The Blue Devils went 11-30 from three and were able to win their third ever game against Cornerstone to drop CU to 12-6, 6-4 WHAC on the year. • The defenses would again start to take control for the next five minutes of play. Lawrence Tech would take their first lead of the game after a steal and free throw from Shamar Matthews at the 5:02 mark remaining in the period.
  • Blake Lund hit a fade away jumper to end the half, giving Lawrence Tech a 34-31 lead at the break.
  • The two teams attempted 36 threes in the first half on 64 total field goal attempts with each team hitting five from behind the arc.
  • Lawrence Tech came out swinging in the second half hitting three three balls in the first five minutes to increase their edge to 47-40.
  • After a three from freshman Lewis Jones cut the deficit to four, LTU went on a 6-0 run to go up 10, 53-43.
  • With 10:53 to play, Cory Ainsworth hit an and-one that cut the Blue Devil lead back to just six at 55-49.
  • Lawrence Tech would again make it a 10-point lead at 66-56 with 7:02 to play.
  • In scramble mode, the veteran Golden Eagles found an 8-0 run over the next four minutes to get within two. Eli Steffen and Cory Ainsworth each had four points in the run to make the deficit 69-67.
  • Andrew Rinn took over in the final minutes however, hitting a dagger three with 1:46 to play to put Lawrence Tech on top 76-71.
  • In the final 10 seconds, Cornerstone would again get the deficit down to just two but were unable to find a bucket to tie or take the lead. CU was forced to foul multiple times to put Lawrence Tech in the bonus, and they would convert to earn the 78-74 upset victory over CU.
