ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Women's Volleyball got the best of Concordia in a five-set thriller 21-25, 26-24, 27-25, 14-25, 15-9 to move to 14-15 (9-10) on the season.
Aubrey Lenz led the way with a 52-assist performance where
Kylie Barron had a career high 18 kills for a tie for the team high. It was a much-needed victory after a heartbreaking five-set loss to Madonna the previous day. Cornerstone remains in sixth place in the conference standings with one game left in the regular season against Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday, November 4.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Concordia - 2
First Set – Concordia – 25 Cornerstone – 21
- Cornerstone and Concordia battled it out to start the match as it is tied 4-4 after a kill from Gabby VerBerkmoes.
- Cornerstone used a 4-0 run to take an 8-4 lead thanks to three straight errors from the Cardinals.
- Concordia used a 7-2 run to take an 11-10 lead over the Golden Eagles thanks to multiple kills from their hitters.
- Concordia has continued to hold onto their lead as it is now 18-15 Cardinals late in the first set.
- Cornerstone used a nice rally to tie the match 21-21 thanks to multiple kills from Kylie Barron.
- Concordia closed the first set on a 4-0 run to take set one 25-21.
Second Set – Cornerstone – 26 Concordia – 24
- Cornerstone got off to a quick start in the second set winning 4-2 after a kill from Kylie Barron and a block from Jada Thomas and Gabby VerBerkmoes.
- Concordia used a 4-1 run to take a 6-5 lead over the Golden Eagles.
- After a kill from Kylie Barron, Emmalee Murphy added a service ace to take an 11-10 lead over Concordia.
- Concordia would answer with a 4-0 run to retake the lead 14-11.
- Cornerstone would rally off six straight points thanks in part to Emmalee Murphy's multiple kills and a service ace from Alli Pickard to make it 20-17 Golden Eagle lead.
- Cornerstone forced Concordia to use their final timeout as they lead 23-20 after multiple attacking errors.
- Concordia would storm back to tie the match 24-24.
- A kill and a block from Gabby VerBerkmoes gave Cornerstone the 26-24 set two victory.
Third Set – Cornerstone – 27 Concordia – 25
- Cornerstone got off to a great start in the third set, winning 6-1 thanks to kills from Gabby VerBerkmoes, Emmalee Murphy, and Kylie Barron. Emmalee Murphy added a service ace in the 6-1 run.
- Concordia would storm back making the match a 9-8 Cornerstone lead taking advantage of the Cornerstone's errors.
- A kill from Kylie Barron and a service ace from Kylie Andras gives Cornerstone a 16-10 lead.
- Cornerstone forced Concordia to use their final timeout as they lead 23-18 late in the third set after a kill from Kylie Barron.
- Concordia rallied off five-straight points to tie the match 23-23 thanks to multiple kills and a service ace.
- Cornerstone would finish off the third set victorious after big blocks from Gabby VerBerkmoes, Kylie Barron, and Aubrey Lenz winning 27-25.
Fourth Set – Concordia – 25 Cornerstone – 14
- Concordia jumped out to an early 7-3 lead in the fourth set behind a solid attacking performance.
- It continued to be all Concordia in the fourth set as they lead 14-7. Emmalee Murphy had multiple kills for the Golden Eagles.
- Cornerstone rallied off five-straight points to make it a 14-12 Concordia lead thanks to multiple kills and a block from Gabby VerBerkmoes.
- Concordia rallied off seven-straight points to take a 23-13. A fourth set victory right within reach.
- It was all Concordia in set four winning 25-14 to force a game five.
Fifth Set – Cornerstone – 15 Concordia – 9
- It was 2-2 early in the fifth set with both teams taking advantage of errors.
- Cornerstone rallied off four-straight points to take a 6-2 lead with multiple kills from Kylie Barron and a service ace from Kylie Andras.
- The Golden Eagles used another big run to make it a 10-4 match after a kill from Kylie Andras and a big block from Kylie Barron and Aubrey Lenz.
- Eliza Thelen and Jada Thomas ended the game in style with a block to win the fifth set 15-9.
