Women's Volleyball sweeps Michigan-Dearborn to get back to even on the year

 
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles took down the Wolverines on western night in a sweeping fashion. 25-20, 25-18, 25-22 3-0 sweep as Cornerstone was in control of the match from start to finish. CU hit .295 as a team with 12 total blocks as Dearborn had trouble getting anything going. Kylie Barron, Hannah Giere, and Emmalee Murphy all had 10 kills to lead the way as the victory moved the Golden Eagles to even on the year at 10-10 (5-5). Cornerstone will be back in action to start the second half of WHAC play at Lawrence Tech on Wednesday, October 11 starting at 7 p.m.

First Set – Cornerstone – 25 UM-Dearborn - 20
  • Cornerstone started out hot going up 4-1 thanks to kills from Hannah Giere and Eliza Thelen
  • Cornerstone used a 5-1 run that forced Dearborn to use one of their timeouts as they extended their lead 10-6 thanks to multiple kills from Hannah Giere.
  • Dearborn used a 6-0 run to take a 14-13 lead to force Cornerstone to use one of their timeouts.
  • It has continued to go back-and-forth in the first set as the match is tied 18-18 after an attack error from the Wolverines.
  • Cornerstone closed out the first set on a 7-1 run to win 25-20 with big kills from Kylie Barron and Eliza Thelen.
 
Second Set – Cornerstone – 25 UM-Dearborn – 18
  • Dearborn jumped out to an early 4-3 lead in the second set off a service ace.
  • Cornerstone would respond by taking a 6-4 lead thanks to a solo block from Kylie Barron.
  • A 5-0 run from the Golden Eagles forced Dearborn to use one of their timeouts as Cornerstone leads 13-8 thanks to multiple blocks Gabrielle VerBerkmoes and Emmalee Murphy.
  • Cornerstone used another 5-0 run to extend their lead 18-9 thanks to more blocks from Kylie Barron and Eliza Thelen.
  • Dearborn has used a nice run as they have cut into Cornerstone leads 20-15 late in the second set.
  • Emmalee Murphy would end the second set herself with back-to-back kills to win 25-18. 
 
Third Set – Cornerstone – 25 UM-Dearborn – 22
  • Michigan-Dearborn got off an early 5-3 lead off multiple kills.
  • Cornerstone would respond nicely going on a 7-1 run to take a 10-6 lead thanks to multiple kills from Emmalee Murphy and a service ace from Aubrey Lenz.
  • The Golden Eagles used a 5-0 run thanks to a red card from the Dearborn coach as three straight points came off blocks from Cornerstone as its 15-8.
  • Kylie Barron adds a kill off a pass from Aubrey Lenz to give Cornerstone a 18-11 lead.
  • Dearborn has used a nice run to force Cornerstone to use a timeout as the Golden Eagles lead 23-20.
  • A kill from Kylie Barron and a missed hit from the Wolverines gives Cornerstone a 25-22 victory and a 3-0 sweep.

35 – Aubrey Lenz had 35 assists in the three-set victory
10's – Kylie Barron, Hannah Giere, and Emmalee Murphy all had 10 kills in the victory.

What's Next? 
Cornerstone won't be in action until next Wednesday, October 11 as they start the second half of conference play against Lawrence Tech.
