DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Golden Eagles are still in search of their first win as they played much of the day from behind, falling 7-5 in eight innings and 9-1 to Grand View on Wednesday afternoon. CU made a great comeback in game one only to fall in extras but was unable to find offense in game two as they are now 0-4 on the year.
George Cutler added two more HR's on the day as Cornerstone will be back in action tomorrow for two nine inning games against Ave Maria and these same Grand View Vikings.
Game One – Grand View – 7 Cornerstone – 5 (Eight Innings)
- Brody Nelson and Jason Moist the two starters in game one worked quickly through the first inning, each sitting the opponent down 1-2-3 in under 10 minutes.
- In the second inning, Grand View struck first with a solo home run from Nolan Drill to make it 1-0.
- George Cutler responded right away with a solo home run of his own to the same spot in left field to tie the game at one.
- In the third, Brody Nelson struggled to find the zone walking the bases loaded with nobody out. Grand View took advantage scoring a run on a fielder's choice to regain the lead 2-1. After one more walk, Nelson was able to strand the bases loaded and limit the damage to just one run.
- Brody Nelson would exit the game in the fourth after a walk as Ben Cunningham would come in as the first reliever out of the bullpen.
- Grand View would continue to find ways to string runs together in the fourth, scoring on a single to center from Dane Schwirtz, and a pick-off attempt at first that allowed the runner to steal home.
- George Cutler continued to stay hot at the plate with another deep bomb to left field to put Cornerstone back within two at 4-2.
- Ben Cunningham was able to work his way around a bases loaded no out jam in the fifth keeping the CU deficit at two, 4-2.

- Neither side could find a run in the seventh as the game would go to extra innings tied at four.
- In the eighth, an error cost Cornerstone allowing a run to score to take the lead 5-4. CU went to Lucas Vega to try and get out of the inning, but Grand View added two more runs to go on top 7-4.
- Landon Poll scored Jake Collins in the bottom of the inning, but that would be the only response as CU would fall 7-5 in the first game of the day.
Game Two – Grand View – 9 Cornerstone - 1
- In game two, JC Salinas tried to spark the offense with a lead-off single. A double play would help Grand View get out of hit however as CU was unable to score.
- Grand View saw some early success against Alex Hayward the Golden Eagle starter getting two early singles to have runners on the corners. A CU error allowed a run to score but Matthew Kindley made an outstanding throw from right field to get the runner advancing to third to avoid further damage. Grand View led 1-0 after an inning.
- Alex Hayward was able to get two quick outs in the second, but some infield singles allowed the Vikings to add three runs in the second highlighted by a Camden Armstrong two RBI single that made it 4-0.
- Alex Hayward bounced back nicely on the mound in the third inning, getting Grand View 1-2-3 to keep the deficit at four.
- Carson Wadel continued to help GV score in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double that just landed in front of a diving Jordan Wenzel that made it 5-0.
- Cornerstone continued to find base runners but could not get a run in. In the top of the fifth Grant Young would get to third but overran the base leading to an out and prevented a CU run.
- Cam VanPutten came in to pitch the bottom of the fifth for the Golden Eagles. Grand View would continue to find ways to score off the new pitcher with an RBI triple making it 6-0. Three more runs would score in the inning to make it 9-0 Vikings after five.
