LIMA, Ohio - Baseball traveled to UNOH for a pair of road WHAC games as they would eventually falling in both, 7-0 and 13-8. Cornerstone never got it going in the first game as they struggled from the plate as the pitching struggled in the second game, seeing UNOH take advantage of the costly errors and walks. Cornerstone didn't get a lot of production from the big hitters, but saw multiple others have a successful day at the plate as
Landon Poll led the way with three hits as
JC Salinas added two more, with
Grant Young having three walks to get the Golden Eagle offense rolling. It will be a quick turnaround for the Golden Eagles as they wake up and play UNOH again tomorrow for another pair of games starting at 1 p.m
Game One Highlights – UNOH – 7 Cornerstone - 0
- Cornerstone found themselves in a little bit of a jam in the bottom of the first, after two straight batters reach via a single, a two-out walk loaded the bases as Josiah Stairs would induce an inning ending groundout to get out of the first unscathed.
- Landon Poll led off the second inning with a double, but UNOH would pitch around the double striking out the next three batters to keep the game tied.
- UNOH would strike first in the bottom of the third after the first three batters reached, UNOH would bring in their first run on a groundout to the pitcher and would later scratch another run on a sac fly, making it a 2-0 UNOH lead after the third.
- The Racers would take advantage of the fielding errors by the Golden Eagles as they would scratch home another run due to an error by Stairs. Another run would score on a wild pitch as they would now lead 4-0. It continued to be a rough inning for the Golden Eagles as another run would score on passed ball as UNOH leads 5-0 after the fourth inning.
- UNOH would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as they would load the bases to start off the inning. The next two batters would put the ball in play as they would extend their lead 7-0 after the fifth inning.
- Nothing got going for the Cornerstone bats as UNOH shut them down as they lost the first game 7-0.
Game Two Highlights – UNOH – 13 – Cornerstone - 8
- UNOH strikes first in the second game as three-straight batters reach with one out in the bottom of the first, scoring the first run of the game.
- Cornerstone got things going in the top of the second as two runs would score with two-outs highlighted by a JC Salinas double to give Cornerstone a 2-1 lead after the top of the third.
- The bats kept going for the Golden Eagles in the top of the fourth. Grant Young rips an RBI single through the right side as Matthew Kindley would follow that up with a two-RBI knock to give Cornerstone the 5-1 lead. UNOH would strike right back taking advantage of a Cornerstone error to make it a 5-3 game after the fourth inning.
- It was a rough start for the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the sixth as after a leadoff single, Cornerstone would walk the next two batters making it bases loaded for UNOH. After a pitching change, UNOH would hit a bases clearing double to tie the game 6-6 and would later score one more on a sac fly to take the lead 7-6.
- Cornerstone took advantage of an error by the Racers as they would tie the game back at 7-7 after the top of the seventh. It was another tough inning for the Cornerstone pitchers as two singles, two hit by pitches, and two walks saw UNOH take a 10-7 lead all with no outs in the inning. The Racers would continue to add on runs thanks to clutch hits as they extended their lead 13-7 after the seventh inning.
- JC Salinas would score in the top of the eighth thanks to failed pickoff attempt to spark some life inside the Golden Eagles, but UNOH would get out of the inning and would close out the ninth inning smoothly as they would 13-8 in game two.
