Baseball falls to Madonna as the Crusaders slug their way to a sweep

LIVONIA, Mich. – Baseball was back in action less than 24-hours after playing a nine-inning makeup game against Siena Heights, where they traveled to Madonna and lost both by a score of 10-4 and 8-4. Madonna struck early in both games thanks to homeruns where the lead was too large for the Golden Eagles to come back from as the errors came back to sting. Jake Collins, Matthew Kindley, and Andrew Meny led the team in hits totaling three between both games leading the offense. Cornerstone now falls to 17-25, 10-14 in the WHAC as they play two more against Madonna tomorrow Saturday, April 22 starting at 1 p.m.

Game One Highlights – Madonna – 10 Cornerstone - 4
  • The offense got rolling early for the Golden Eagles. Jake Collins had a one-out double to give Cornerstone second and third. Matthew Kindley came through for the offense as his single brought in two to make it 2-0 after the top of the first.
  • It didn't take long until Madonna got on the board as with two-outs a single scored the first run of the game for the Crusaders and the rally started from there. Next batter hit a two-run homerun to take the 3-2 lead. Couple more hits and a few walks scored another two runs as Madonna put up a crooked number in the first scoring five.
  • JC Salinas came through with two-outs in the top of the second to bring home Andrew Meny as they now trail 5-3 after the top of the second.
  • Madonna led off the bottom of the second with a homerun to extend their lead back to three 6-3. A couple more hits and a balk score more runs as Madonna now leads 8-3 after the second inning.
  • Matthew Kindly brought home his third run of the game with another single bringing home Jake Collins as Cornerstone trails 8-4 after the top of the fifth. Madonna would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 10-4.
  • Both pitchers settled down as Madonna would take the first game 10-4.

Game Two Highlights – Madonna – 8 Cornerstone – 4
  • Two batters into the bottom of the first and Madonna scored the first run of the game as their offense continues to do damage to the Cornerstone pitching.
  • Madonna loaded the bases with two-outs in the bottom of the second as Cornerstone would walk in a run to give Madonna a 2-0 lead. Next batter would then proceed to hit a grand slam homerun to break the game open 6-0 as the Crusaders go back-to-back with another homerun as it is now 7-0 after the bottom of the second.
  • Lucas Vega started the third inning with a single and would later score on a Jake Collins RBI single to make it 7-1 after the top of the third.
  • With two-outs in the top of the fifth, Cornerstone had the bases loaded as Andrew Meny would walk to bring home a run to make it 7-2. Matthew Kindley would then follow that up with a two-RBI single as Cornerstone would put a crooked number on the board making it 7-4.
  • Madonna would add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-4.
