KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Golden Eagles ended the first half strong scoring two goals but gave up four in the second half to fall to Kalamazoo 5-2. It was a night that the defense did not have their stuff as Cornerstone gave up their season high in goals for a game.
Steven Stidham and
Jake Madak scored the goals for the Golden Eagles as they fall to 1-3-2 on the season. Cornerstone returns home to take on Adrian on Saturday, September 16 starting at 6 p.m.
Game Recap: Kalamazoo – 5 Cornerstone - 2
First Half
- It didn't take long for the action to begin as a shot from Kalamazoo was saved by the Cornerstone keeper Jason Michalek 23 seconds into the game.
- Tyler Corstange had the first shot of the game for the Golden Eagles but sailed just high in the 6th minute.
- Kalamazoo had back-to-back opportunities with corner kicks in the 11th minute, but the Golden Eagle defense stopped both opportunities.
- Kalamazoo scored the first goal of the game in the 21st minute as the shot by Emilio Romo finds the back of the net to take the 1-0 lead.
- Cornerstone would answer quickly with a goal of their own in the 23rd minute as Steven Stidham would find the back of the net for the 1-1 equalizer.
- Cornerstone had a good opportunity in the 32nd minute but the shot by Pablo Rodridguez misses just high.
- Right before the half, Cornerstone took a 2-1 lead as Jake Madak finds the back of the net off a pass from Dani Carilo in the 44th minute.
- Cornerstone leads 2-1 heading into the half.
Second Half
- Kalamazoo has come out aggressive in the second half as the shot by Colin Halloran was saved by Jason Michalek in the 53rd minute.
- Yet just like that, Kalamazoo nets the equalizer in the 54th minute as a shot by Chad Ewing found the back of the net.
- Jason Michalek gets another save in the 66th minute from the foot of a Kalamazoo player. The match remains 2-2 halfway through the second half.
- Kalamazoo takes the lead in the 71st minute as Emilio Romo scores his second goal of the game to make it a 3-2 match.
- After a switch in goalie for the Golden Eagles, Kalamazoo scored their third goal of the second half as Michele Alia found the back of the net to make it a 4-2 game in the 73rd minute.
- After the goals, the Golden Eagles have been aggressive with shots on the goal but nothing to show for it in the 79th minute.
- Cornerstone commits a foul in the box in the 84th minute and Aidan Baas puts the penalty kick in to make it a 5-2 game. Kalamazoo has scored four goals in the second half.
- Kalamazoo would go on to beat Cornerstone 5-2.
