GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –
Pablo Rodriguez was the hero late in the second half, helping Cornerstone end a three-game losing skid with a 2-1 victory over Adrian at home. Rodriguez scored off a beautiful pass from
Tyler Corstange in the 75
th minute to break the tie and lead CU to victory. Cornerstone moves to 2-3-2 on the year as they conclude non-conference play and will open WHAC play vs. Lourdes next Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 2 Adrian - 1
First Half:
- The first 10 minutes both sides were just looking to find their footing with just two Cornerstone corners taking place.
- Off the second corner, CU was able to find the net in the 11th minute as Eli Leegwater won a scramble in the box and poked the ball into the bottom corner for an early 1-0 Golden Eagle lead.
- The Golden Eagles started to connect on their passing after the goal creating more chances. Tyler Corstange was able to get inside the box for a shot in the 14th minute that was saved by Adrian keeper Jackson Vacca.
- Corners continued to be threatening for CU, as Ajani Vaughn nearly found a second for the Golden Eagles in the 20thminute on a shot that required a diving save from the Bulldogs keeper.
- In the 38th minute Pablo Rodriguez took a threatening free kick. He went for goal and nearly placed it perfectly in the upper corner, but it missed just high as the score remained 1-0.
- Cornerstone held a 1-0 lead at the half with five shots and three on net.
Second Half:
- The second half began with Adrian on the front foot. Chris Czyz was able to maneuver all the way down the sideline and tap a ball past CU keeper Roberto Gutierrez to tie the game in the 52nd minute.
- In the 54th minute, Cornerstone saw their first true second half chance on a shot from Tyler Corstange inside the 18-yard box that missed just high.
- The Bulldogs started to see more possession in the second half holding much of the ball through the middle part of the period.
- Tyler Corstange saw another great chance in the 71st minute but a mishit led to a shot high as the score stayed tied 1-1.
- Tyler Corstange redeemed himself starting a beautiful play in the 75th minute. Taking the ball all the way to the endline he made a great centering cross. Ajani Vaughn left it for Pablo Rodriguez who rocketed it into the back of the net to regain the lead.
- Cornerstone held the lead for the final 15 minutes to take the match 2-1.
