ADRIAN Mich. – The Golden Eagles were unable to find the score line, falling 2-0 at Siena Heights on Wednesday evening. Both Saints goals came in the second half after CU held it scoreless for a half. The short-handed Golden Eagles were unable to keep pace though as they fall to 2-5-2 on the year and 0-2-0 in WHAC play. Cornerstone will next play at Cleary on Saturday night for a 7 p.m. match.
Game Recap: Siena Heights – 2 Cornerstone – 0
First Half:
- A short-handed Golden Eagle roster got off to a solid offensive start, recording three early shots including one by Calvin Curtis that would miss wide right in the 16th minute.
- Siena Heights countered right away in the 17th minute testing the CU backline with a shot that the backline blocked away.
- In the 28th minute, Siena Heights would get a big shot. The Saints would miss wide as the Golden Eagles caught a huge break to keep the game scoreless.
- SHU controlled the remainder of the first half but could not find the net as the game stayed scoreless at halftime.
Second Half:
- To start the second half, Cornerstone saw a great opportunity as Jeff Herrema took a shot that was saved. Keeper Ricardo Moreno would make the save though once again keeping it scoreless.
- Siena Heights would take advantage scoring in the 52nd minute on a goal from Marcelo Rocha.
- In the 58th minute, Siena Heights would have another great opportunity. Once again, they would miss just wide.
- Siena Heights finally found the insurance goal in the 70th minute on a goal from Gaizka Zandio. Marcelo Rocha recorded the assist to make it 2-0.
- Cornerstone saw two corners from Seth Campbell in the 75th minute that led to a shot that would hit the post, but CU was unable to find the net.
- The Golden Eagles would fall 2-0 to drop their second straight WHAC match.
