HOWELL, Mich. – Men's Soccer headed into Cougar territory and came out with a 1-0 victory. It was chippy physical match for both teams as Cornerstone got a well needed road win.
Pablo Rodriguez's goal in the 21
st minute was the difference maker in this game as
Roberto Gutierrez had key save on a PK that helped shutout the Cougars. With 37 total fouls and eight yellow cards, the Golden Eagles snuck out with a win to move to 3-5-2 (1-2) on the season as they return home to take on UM-Dearborn on Wednesday, October 4 at 7 p.m.

First Half
- It was a quick start for the Cougars as they had a corner kick in the 1st minute and the header was saved by the Cornerstone keeper Roberto Gutierrez.
- Cornerstone had an opportunity in the 10th minute but the shot by Pablo Rodriguez sails wide.
- Cleary had another opportunity off a corner in the 16th minute as the header sailed high over the goal.
- Cornerstone scores first as the shot from Pablo Rodriguez finds the back of the net off the pass from Calvin Curtis to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute.
- Cleary missed out on a big opportunity in the 30th minuet with multiple shots and corner kicks but the defense of Cornerstone stopped any opportunity.
- After a foul in the box for Cleary, the Cougars had a great opportunity to even the score at ones, but the PK shot was saved by Roberto Gutierrez to keep the game at a 1-0 Cornerstone lead.
- Cornerstone had a great opportunity in the 40th minute but two shots and two corners were stopped by the Cougar defense.
- Cornerstone heads into halftime leading Cleary 1-0.
Second Half
- Just like the first half, the Cougars opened the half aggressive as a shot on goal was saved by Roberto Gutierrez in the 46th minute.
- Roberto Gutierrez with another save in the 60th minute to keep Cornerstone ahead 1-0.
- The game has started to get chippy with multiple yellow cards on both sides with even head coach Steve Herdsman getting one.
- Dani Carillo had an opportunity in the 69th minute but his shot was sent just wide of the goal.
- A header opportunity in the 83rd minute for the Cougars sails wide as Cornerstone is just seven-minutes away from a 1-0 victory.
- A last second shot in the 89th minute by Cleary sails high as the Golden Eagles escape the Cougars with a 1-0 victory.
